Kalibeck

Didn't want to hijack the other thread, but I have an issue with one of my dogs. I've been feeding Canidae ALS for at least 18 months now, & every one has been doing well, nice shiny coats, high energy levels, good solid stools. Now Lil' Bit started vomiting a little more than 2 weeks ago, went to the vet, took 7 days of flagyl, did the rice & boiled chicken for a week. She recovered quickly, lost a little weight, but still full of energy, coat soft & shiny, our usual happy little girl. But just when we were weaning her back onto the kibble, she vomited again. We did the whole routine again, added a flat plate of the abdomen & a stool culture & O&P....all negative. Again, when we started adding the kibble back, she puked. Every one else is doing well on this kibble, so I know it's not a bad bag....so, any opinions? She's still energetic, coat soft & shiny, but lost a little more weight. She's going back to the vets, but I'm not sure what we're looking for at this point. i should add on the chicken & rice her stools are perfect, not soft or runny, no bad smell....I'm beginning to think she just doesn't like the Canidae. But she eats it willingly.....??? I'd love to hear your opinions! Thanks!  jackie harris

Jackie,
I would try a different brand of kibble, to rule out a problem with what your feeding now with this dog.
All dogs are not the same.
It could be that simple.
Anyway its easy enough to try and not as costly as vet visits.

Your old friend,
Moons.

Hey Moons,
How are you & those pretty black puppies of yours doing? Big by now, I'm sure!
You know, that's basically what I was thinking, try a different kibble. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something obvious.
The little dog doesn't act sick, just throws up every time she eats that brand anymore.....& Carl's tired of cleaning it up, but of course won't let me do it. He's a good guy.
Now, what to try....?
So nice to hear from you again! jackie harris

I think Moons advice is good.  There have been too many things go wrong with ingredients.

I hope your pup recovers soon.

i've had dogs puke certain foods ----- canidae was one of them.  have to agree with moons.  try a different kibble.  orijen, acana, evo, or the one i personally recommend --- nature's variety instinct (i like the rabbit formula, but very hard to come by)  earthborn grainfree primitive is also a good kibble and very reasonably priced; much easier to find.

i know at one time some of canidae's products were being produced by diamond.  i honestly don't know if that is still going on or not, but i am not a fan of diamond in any way.  TOTW was a horrible let down.  i tied it several times and different receipes, but every time i had terrible results with the dogs.

try the nature's variety or earthborn.  they are both excellent.
wishing you the best of luck.  i know how frustrating it can be.

Jackie,
Isabelle is two now and due for her x-rays, I haven't seen any of her litter mates lately but she is maturing and doing quite well, she has claimed her place here in our little pack.
Sorry I don't have any new pictures to show off.
I had to switch brands of kibble lately myself, the makers decided they needed a face lift, not sure if I'm satisfied with it yet or not.
Same company, different package and the food seems different as well.
I wish when something works and has been around for a long time they could just leave it alone instead of thinking they can improve it.

There could be several reasons for the vomiting but trying a different food on this one dog seems easy enough for starters.
Dunno if your feeding wet or dry, any changes should be gradual over several days though.

Moons.

Thanks, we'll try something else, maybe go back to Evo or Orijen, if I can find it! jackie harris

My moms dog did not do well on the Canidae either... she got a VERY dry coat.. As other people have mentioned I would try a different kibble... Wellness CORE is a good one and so it Innova EVO.. I personally like the CORE better.. Another kibble you could try (if its available where you live) is California Natural.

Goood luck and I hope you find a kibble that works good for your dog...

JYL
