Ambigsd – LOL, I truly am Joe Public, perhaps though I should have GSDjoepublic. I have had GSDs since 1993, and have two at the moment, neither are alsatians, nor are they showline, but middle of the road (one is solid black). I have a great interest in the history of the breed and am always interested in learning. I learn from people more knowledgeable than I, and I research and read, and I consider the validity of everything I come across and form an opinion. I have been watching the fracas surrounding the breed since PDE hit. In some things I agree strongly with the people posting on here, in terms of health testing. However I have yet to see anything positive come from the breed council, whose health page, if you could call it that is pitiful, and would certainly not help a newcomer to the breed understand it’s problems, or how to go about obtaining a healthy GSD. I have been seriously concerned about the change to the physical structure for many years. I am thrilled to hear that working and showlines are heading for a 'meeting in the middle’ and I yearn to see a better dog as a result. Historically I would have to go back to the 70’s and before to see the kind of dog that I think is of sound conformation. Shoulders may be getting better, but I don’t see any improvement in hindquarters, and, lets face it, conformation wise, this is the main problem area with the GSD. I don’t really know the ‘characters’ in the breed, sometimes only what I read on here, and often that doesn’t mean much to me. I see who posts here vociferously, and have looked at their websites, and usually find showlines that I personally consider exaggerated.

You refer to the ‘type’ that the KC proposes to promote, and I guess that you are assuming it to be the ‘alsatian’ type. Nothing I have read so far leads me to that conclusion, however, I do worry that it could go that way. That to me is equally extreme, and is nothing like a GSD should be.

My current understanding is that the KC simply wishes to improve soundness and conformation, but time will tell. I think it depends on those breeders who decide to attempt to improve conformation by judicious breeding, and the breeders who come on here have the ability but apparently not the desire to do so. Certainly to the public at large this would make the international type breeders appear to be intransigent and not willing to address ‘problems’ within the breed in terms of construction. It appears that way to me, that the breeders who are breeding the international type with it’s current construction have no intention of changing anything, since they can’t or wont see anything wrong with it.

Missbeeb – You certainly represent the breed so well, and so eloquently. No, my dogs would not qualify to enter your shows, never having been breed surveyed etc, as I am not a particular fan of the german system, but then I have no desire to enter any shows, KC or otherwise. One of my dogs competes very successfully in agility, which is of greater interest to me than any other ‘event. You see this seems to be such an inherent problem within this breed, certain elements never consider any other point of view, and that’s the problem – you can’t get the blinkers off. Your only response is abuse – the last resort when a genuine argument cannot be presented.
By the way Missbeeb, I’m a her, not a him.

Mo – that would be from this statement earlier in this thread:
Maybe once we are under the WUSV we can BAN the kc's cronies from entering our shows. Also the 14 are in the right time zone as its about now that Judas was plotting his deeds.
Where did you read that we will select who comes to the shows? As above. It’s not the first time someone has mentioned this either, it has been mentioned in one form or another on several threads. I didn’t say that you had, (perhaps I need to make my writing bigger) I said that you were ‘considering’ as per the above post. Perhaps it isn’t really meant, and it’s just a spiteful remark because you don’t like the fact that everyone isn’t following the path that you have decided to take. ‘You’ by the way is a collective term on my part.

Yes, I have been following the whole situation with interest. I don’t need the writing to be bigger, as I understand the situation perfectly well. Have your shows, enter the KC shows, but don’t behave like children who have had their toys taken away, and suggest that those that have signed up to KC may be excluded from your shows. As I said before take a look at how this all sounds. They have made their decision, you have made yours, why don’t you just get on with it? No, I don’t know the personalities, or the internal politics, other than some threads I have read. However, again, mostly these seem to take the form of personal attack and abuse, so no-one really knows who has done what, or what can actually be believed.
