I spoke with the trainer for a major city here in the south at a PD trial this summer. Asked him how they get their dogs and price. He said they deal primarily with 2 vendors and tossed out the same $7000-$8000 mark (sometimes higher or lower) being mentioned for green dogs. He did say the dogs were fully guaranteed and could be returned if they don't work out.

Rik - That is a pretty standard price for a "Green Dog"
Read his post or ask Slamdunc about that. .....and why he is trying to get a bigger budget?
Honestly folks, look at the video of the pup......how many puppy's have you seen that do that?
Be honest......
And that pup was sold for well below $7000

Excellent comment Bob, and one that everyone posting on this board should consider.
Why is it?
That many just never get the chance to get the training needed to excel?

Kim - I think Sam summed it up nicely:
"... too many get discarded because the owner didn't have the knowledge or
the 'stick-to-it-iveness' (!) to properly train and care for the dog."

A bit off topic but Pirates Lair what type of reward does the puppy get when overcoming an obsticle?
by Bob McKown on 06 November 2012 - 13:11
Because too many dog owners went a GSD with a lab mentality. Becuase of over breeding, look how many well breed dogs end up in shelters. Becuase not everyone with money needs a GSD.

hey Mike, do you really need it to bite, or would a mean-looking deterrent dog that follows you around all day do the trick? I've seen people get away with having a dobermann with them, even though they are really friendly dogs. If you actually need it to bite, as others have already mentioned, it will take a lot more initial and maintenance training (along with a good chunck of your time).
Hey Jim, can you share what tests are done on green dogs in your department to figure out if they cut it? Or is that conf stuff?
