Adorable!! 10 puppies are going to keep you and Gretchen busy for a while. Can't wait to see what they look like as they continue to develop.

Puppies are doing well.. thank goodness you sent me those bottles! Mom is NOT a good Mom. Been throwing the idea back and fourth
of taking babies from her. She keeps trying to bury them when she is in the box, does not want to be in the whelping box with them and
jumps out then refuses to jump back in on her own. Whelping box is clean, so no excuses there. I have a heating pad in the corner so if
no one is around, puppies are still warm when she jumps out. She does not try and keep them warm.... sleeps on the other side of the box.
I SO wish one of my other girlies was going through a false pregnancy! Gah! They are gaining weight and I am supplementing with the
leerburg puppy formula every few hours.

Any ideas on how to deal with a bad Mom?

Odd that Mom has no instinct for them.  I have heard of this problem before in other breeds.  I know of no magic.  Poor you and her.  I wish I was close; I would take half and help you with the load.

Maybe try just putting one with her and giving mom treats everytime she get near it.  My guess is that for whatever reason, she sees them as an intrustion.  I will research to see if I find anything else.

Here is what I found.  You probably already have this, but may not have had the time to look at it.

A mother that refuses to nurse may be exhibiting signs of illness or inexperience. Several conditions can cause a mother not to nurse, including eclampsia, mastitis or metritis. Another reason a mother may not nurse is a lack of maternal instinct.

Eclampsia is a serious condition caused by lowered blood calcium levels that can be fatal to your dog. Milk production increases the body's demand for calcium and is one possible cause of eclampsia. Poor nutrition and lack of calcium absorption by the intestines can also lead to eclampsia. Dogs exhibiting decreased maternal instincts, including a refusal to nurse, may have eclampsia. Other symptoms include restless or nervous behavior, panting, pacing, irritability, drooling or trouble walking.

Infection and inflammation of the uterus is found in dogs with metritis. Symptoms include fever, decreased milk production and lack of maternal instincts, lethargy, loss of appetite and strong, malodorous vaginal discharge.

Often a lack of maternal instinct is seen in first time mothers who are unaware of how to care for their offspring. To rectify this, you may need to hold the mother down during gently nursing. Give the dog praise for any interest she shows in her offspring. Poor maternal instincts should reverse within a week of this therapy.

On one hand she is still feeding them some, cleaning up the poo for the most part so I really don't want to take them away. On the other,
I don't want her to hurt them by burying them (this is a pvc backed whelping box liner that's supposed to be anti slip and gives puppies
good footing) I know that if I gave them to one of my other girls, they would clean up but not be able to feed them, unless by some miracle
their bodies got milk in, which has happened but not often enough to gamble on.

Some dogs are just not good mothers. Let me tell you, if I had intentionally bred a litter and Mom was this bad, she would be spayed and
never have another litter. Not that Gretchen will ever have another litter, but I wouldn't breed a female who showed she was not a good
mother.

Hmm... none of the symptoms fit for eclampsia, metritis or mastitis.

I think it is just poor maternal instinct, honestly, coupled with inexperience.
