This disease is a serial killer :(

by hexe on 04 October 2012 - 00:10

Yep. An especially stealthy one, too.

Bumping again in memory of my Wynthea's Imp, known to those who loved her as just Jessie, who was born October 1, 1991.  She was my first GSD, and she's the one I measure all others by as far as temperament, natural protectiveness in appropriate situations, biddability and bonding with a partner.  Fortunately, she wasn't stricken by DM until she was in her 13th year, and it was hemangiosarcoma that took her a week after her 14th birthday, not the DM.  I miss her still.

My heart aches for all who have recently lost a much loved and cherished furry friend to DM. I am so sorry for your loss. Godspeed Blade, Sadie, Minto,  Nicholas, Ginger, Betsy and Skylar. I know you will be waiting for those who loved and cared for you when their time comes to leave this earth.

starrchar, I imagine a small piece of you breaks off with the passing of each of them, too. I know it does for me, and it's been 16 years since my DM-dog left me behind. Cry Smile

Hexe, Yes, it does. I really do ache inside for you and everyone else who has experienced the devastation of watching their beloved dog succumb to this disease. For those who have recently lost their dogs the loss is so fresh and the pain runs so deep. For you, reading about the losses must bring it all back up again.... I am so sorry.  For me, every time I read of another dog being lost to DM I experience the loss and I grieve too, dreading what is come... I wonder how I will get through it.

OMG- the U of Fla took down the direct donation page to Dr Clemmons research.  I am so spitting angry I can barely breathe!!!! They said that they wont allow donations to go directly to him because he doesnt have a specific project. How the hell can he have a specific project when they dont give him research funds and without knowing how much money will be coming in from donors???? WTH????? He is speaking with them so hopefully this will be resolved soon.  I wish he would leave there and go elsewhere. How many of our dogs are going to have to die before these people wake up????????????? OMG- I think they need to go to the wizard of oz and get a heart, which they evidently were not born with. I am beside myself. I think of how many dogs that were lost to DM just these past 2 weeks, alone. The AKCCHFand the OFA throw money at Dr Coates , as does her University. Why is she the only one allowed to research, when the disease she is researching isnt even GSDM, and the latest studies dont even mention the SOD1 being associated with ALS, which is NOT DM! ???? Are these people stupid, ignorant, or just greedy?????? ok- I can see I am not going to be able to control myself..... I am BEYOND outraged!

Knowledge is a deadly friend
If no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools."..........

Strange that someone with 'no specific project' would be one of the speakers invited to appear at the 2013 North American Veterinary Conference, as Dr. Clemmons is going to be doing.

This is ridiculous.
