Beardog

by Beardog on 20 April 2012 - 00:04

Hi Bob,
If you find the magic potion please PM me because I've got some that have the problem too.
They're ravenous eaters. I would change food if I thought that would work. I wonder if it could be the chicken. I'd almost buy a buffalo to butcher if I thought it would get it stopped. It's pretty damn repulsive.

whew...I've had a few that tried the delicacy:-) If she's is still doing it now, I would put her with a person who can walk her off property...and where she is an only dog....I hate the habit!

Stool eating is repulsive to humans, but it's instinctive behavior for dogs that do many things we consider unacceptable. I won't offer any examples, everyone knows what I'm talking about. Sometimes we just need to live with things like stool eating and learn how to best deal with it. Personally I would never use an e-collar to prevent a dog from eating stool. I'd just clean it up faster.

I know with foals they will eat their dams poop to build up the healthy bacteria in their gut, and helps stimulate their immune system. Have you tried a pre/probiotic?

Otherwise those tablets or Blitzens quick cleanup suggestion might be your best bet.

Best of luck!

My old girl the Poop eater number 1 did not have EPI.  And I think poppeater number 2 saw her do it and started doing even before she was diagnosed with EPI.  But once diagnosed it has become even more of a problem but enzymes did not stop the poop eating.  I think I may try electric collar.

I do clean up quick. but she will beg to out poop then turn around and eat it.  Especially at night when i don't follow her.  I know I am being lazy at night but there are other things I have to do other than follow her around with a pooper scooper.

Yeah, some dog are relentless when it comes to eating stool. The last GSD I had that did it was a problem at night too. I thought I had it all cleaned up, but when he breathed in my face I knew he either did the deed again or I missed some. I don't think it's possible to prevent it 100%.

IMO any GSD that doesn't eat stool is a breeding quality dog, titles or no titles

 Yes use fresh pineapple...crushed up

also  www.revivalanimal.com does have the packages that worked for me...it comes in dry form and about 10 of them..use it. The name of it is   FORBID

also I was told by a top breeder long ago to use   Meat TENDERIZER...ON THE DOGS FOOD.

GOOGLE  it. I used the one from revival ...it worked on the pups that were about 4 -6 months others bought from me

I used it on Czuiker and Pepsii ...they are high food drive kids...the fresh poop smells like meat they eat and a high food drive dog eats anything always.

I also use a probiotic as some vets say the digestion of your pet is off and not secreting enough acid to fully digest your dogs system...so I use a probiotic with my dogs about every other month.

revivalanimal.com sells it too..

Pineapple has amazing properties for us too..but not canned...Fresh pineapple helps digestion and according to health guhru;s is good for eliminating  indigestion or what some call....REFLUX..but it must be fresh pineapple..

This is a very interesting and entertaining thread.

Funny part is NO ONE has responded to my whisky idea except Bob.  His idea is a good one, but his wife might divorce him and then we all would be left taking care of him.. NO thank you.. LOL

Another thought on the whisky.. if the dog LIKES it she might stop eating the poop after she passed out.  If not, maybe the whisky will help Bob so he can just not care anymore!!

BTW I have heard that FRESH pineapple might work.

Let us know how it all works out for ya.. You have enough varied suggestions here to write a book (almost) and if you try each one and wait and see if it works, the dog will get too old to poop OR eat it, and the problem will be solved!
