Some here have been critical of those of us who have cleared our dogs utilizing the OFA cardiac evaluation before using those dogs for breeding. We test for too much, are we paranoid? It's not a perfect test, OFA has never made that claim. It will not identify every dog likely to produce cardiac issues in its progeny, but it's the best we have right now. Why not use it? It's the right thing to do.
Years ago a friend's 4 year old Irish Setter died while we groomed her in my kennel yard. Her owner knew she had a severe heart mumur, so it wasn't all that unexpected. Had she not tested that dog, she would have used her for breeding bringing more defective dogs into the world.
