On thier long attacks the decoy breaks a stick over the dogs back just at impact and you see parts of the stick flying around. They also do excercises like guard the article, find and hold a guy hidden in the woods, retrieving small metal objects like bullet shells and pennies and bring them back to the handler. They jump straight 6 ft ( or so ) wall and must also do long jumps etc...
It truly is an amazing sport to watch
In my opinion this is a much more difficult sport than Schutzhund and is geared towards a very fast, agile dog with good nerves. That's why you don't see many GSDs in the competition. Intrestingly enough you do see some gsd /mali mixes doing well.

As an exemple, look at Hero Van Tiekerhook, he's out of "Schutzhund" dogs and is doing very well in Mondioring!
French Ring GSD come frome the same lines, and that's a fact!

no one will know if the dogs ´will do the sport without trying it
but most of the gsd schh lines lacks drive and the trait to stay in drive without the handler or someone to always have to tease the dogs to keep them in drive
I have not seen most dogs here that could do other than SCHH
french ring dogs dont have much schh dogs in their pedigree and those that are in the pedigree are often far back in the lines

french ring gsd are not schh lines as I wrote before there are schh lines far behind in some of their pedigrees but not that much but mostly just a few like yoschy, aly and half
not many of the ofther schh lines

What you mentioned about the French not paying much attention to the females, apparently it's the same when it comes to Malinois in France. It's too bad because, in my opinion at the moment, French Ring tests the fighting drive and the athletism of the dogs much more than IPO does giving the French breeder a good venue to improve the breed.
Cheers,
