Bob
Commiserations !
Over the years I've tried just about every remedy for copraphagia for one or two dogs who consistently did this. Changing foods; Pineapple;  courgettes (zuchini);  chili;  Deter tablets; other OTC remedies;  carrots;  you name it.
Lots of these worked for a few days,  then they were right back at it.
Giardia :  maybe a "chicken & egg" thing,  I think it can go hand in hand with poop eating, but that's just as likely they catch it because they polish off so much crap (most are inclined to eat other animals' as well) than that they have giardia as the cause.   Only thing I've ever found works nearly 100% is to prevent it happening by always being on top of cleaning up after all dogs.   One thing which has been helpful with some (but not others) is they seem to have this "gotta chew; keep the jaw moving" thing going on at the end of a meal, and immediately giving them a hard chewy of some sort successfully distracts them - ( I swear by rawhide but realise some folk don't like these - deer antler could be good);  if you can stop it happening straight after they have eaten that is half your battle - but obviously that method won't work where the dog poop-eats in between meals; as with so many bad habits it depends on the individual.  Hope something in this post or on this thread helps you ... yuk!

Hey bob, I had two dogs that were just as bad as your female, tried everything under. The sun, nothing worked. So I went to the pet store, invested in a shock collar and waited. Sure enough they would go to eat that poop and they got zapped, no words from me just the zap.never ever did they ever go near the poop again. They thought the poo. Bit them, and it was a permanent fix from one zap each.

I really believe I KNOW why puppies/dogs do it, but the how to break them I don't have the answer. When you have a good mama dog, that is really the first thing she teaches her puppies, she is constantly keeping them clean by eating their poop. As they start eating solid foods and are running around, she will follow them around cleaning them up and then the whole gang decides if mom is doing it I want some also. I KNOW this because I have watched it over and over in my litters. Some seem to out grow it while others seem to keep doing it. I have no answer for breaking them, just think I know why they do it, they had a good mama. :)

here is a great link.  My dog at 8 months starting ravenously eating her poop.  One of the first signs of EPI.  I am not saying your dog has EPI but could be on the road.  I am agreeing with trying some enzymes as the reason she is eating it is because it is not fully digested and still tastes good.  I have attached a link for you to watch.  i think this will make some sense to you and i think you may be able to clear up the problem.

bob the more I think about it and how long it took my vet ( 2 actually ) to diagnose EPI the more it pisses me off.  The poop eating would have been the first clue that something was wrong.  The longer you wait on this the more damage to the dogs pancreas if in fact she/he  is pre EPI. It doesn't hurt to add some enzymes to its food, and if you start to notice the poop is no longer being eaten then you may have nipped it in the bud.  i only wish that I had been smart enough back then to try the enzymes and maybe my dog would not be as bad off as she is today.  poop eating is not normal. It is usually a sign that something is up.  Just trying to help, not meddle.

I've had at least 6 stool eaters in the last 40 years and none had EPI.
