You are saying this is a sable out of two black and red dogs? Can't be done! This is a washed out b/t or b/r.

why not post a full body shot so we can see the whole dog and see from there?

by crhuerta on 16 August 2009 - 20:08

Katjo74,
I'm not being critical, so don't take offense.
But genetically your Lailana is a black & tan/black & red puppy.......because her "parent's" say so.
Anyone can call her whatever they choose......"rainbow", if it suits them.......BUT if those are her parents, and you are the breeder, therfore no ones' clearer than yourself........her "parents" profess...black & tan puppy daughter!
I'm sure as she grows and sheds the puppy coat, her transformation will be evident....
Best of luck with her.

I also just wanted to add.....to clarify Timo's lineage.
Timo's father was a sable dog, and the grandmother was a sable dog....and it goes on from there..so on, and so on.

I agree, if both parents are blk/tans,  you will not have a sable puppy.  call it what it is, a faded blk/tan.  when mature she will probably have a very small saddle and little mask.

this is my boy at 8 weeks old, he is a patterned sable

by newshep on 17 August 2009 - 01:08

Wow Uber Land, I've never seen a sable pup with that much "pattern" at such a young age, is that the most recent photo of him or is he older now?  If he's alot older can you post his latest photos?  I'd love to see what he looks like now.

Katjo74, it doesn't really make a difference to me since she's not my puppy, I was just trying to learn.  It still seems weird to me that she's a sable, maybe it's the photo quality or something?  I can tell Uber Land's pup is a sable, even though I've never seen one with that much of a black/tan look before, but the way it looks around the eyes is just like other sable puppies.  Also, I've been told you can tell a sable puppy is a sable the moment it's born, not 3 days later?

"And ultimately, what difference does it really make, Jez, except for you to be involved with others who obviously don't know the difference between fact and lies. They've spread plenty here and in other places. I'd be careful whom I associate with."

Um, ok.  I don't know anyone else here, I'm not involved or associated with anyone else, I don't get why you say I am?  I just came on here to learn something.  I'm not sure if I've actually learned anything real or not but from what you've said and what everyone else says I think that Uber Land is probably right.

This might be so, people-I am not here to argue; I've just never seen such puppy with such markings before when they were this young, especially 2-tone hair like she's had. It's very interesting-I am not super familiar with the sable marking because it has not been my personal favorite. She is not here on my premises but with another family so I do not have any recent full-body pics to provide right now-sorry. I only have the one posted above by the original poster who decided to come here and do this. Like I've said, if she turns out to be indeed blk/red or a blk/tan, I will change it. No harm done either way to anyone with the issue.

I simply don't understand why the poster didn't just come to me personally and ask me questions rather than come here if they really wanted answers, which would make some sense from a professional standpoint; I can't help but wonder the motive on this. This is not the first time I've been done this way on this database, especially lately. I don't go to other hobby breeder's website due to lack of anything better to do and pick at what they are doing--I have much better things to do with my time.

On the other hand, I am flattered to know that people find what I do with my dogs so interesting that they visit my website apparently quite often, check out what I am doing, and then wanna get me public attention here by posting stuff about me and thus greatly increase the traffic to my website. After all, my website also has alot of GOOD information that shows that I do care about my crew, my clients, and my GSDs. Thanks, newshep-whoever you are--keep it up!

I'm definitely not mad, upset or anything at anyone; some posters here have been less than, well, honest when speaking of me here, so don't take what I say personal unless it fits.

If you're not trying to do something, then fine. If you are, then fine, too. :o))

Crhuerta:   QQ for you?????

What if the male and female are both blk/red    and the   dam of the female is sable  and the dam of the male is sable.  and I believe several sables in the females dams side behind the mom....why would you not come up with  sables.????

I have german pedigrees here and I do not see colorings on several of the dogs...but am curious of your answer......some things puzzle me now that this subject keeps coming up and every one says     two blk/red parents cannot have a sable pup..../???

I don't have any recent pics of my boy, but can post pics from birth to a couple months old.  he's 4 months now and is a very pretty boy, dark face, and a dark blanket,  but his legs, chest area and under the jaw are tan.  he has quite a bit of black all over, and the hair under his chest and belly is really black.
