I'll have him if there's no takers, lol. Think there's a lot worse things in the breed to worry about that this dogs head! Hell I think there's a whole lot more things anywhere to worry about than this dogs head!Roll eyes

And his pedigree photo here on this site

More important than just the head is the breeding family behind this dog. Mainly show lines from Germany. What do the readers think of their value to the breed.

That's so deep-seated in China's culture I doubt if it's even a conscious thing for some. Lion head this and that...look at their native breeds. You can't control everything. I don't care as much about personal preferences for type as much as how the dogs are treated. I will be a bit upset if the SV rewrites the standard to adopt the Chinese GSD look, but beyond that, I don't see where this is any worse (or any better) than any of the other gross misinterpretations of the standard. It will never change. Best to accept that.

by Mackenzie on 23 October 2015 - 15:10

The SV will never rewrite the standard to accommodate what happens in China or anywhere else. When you look around the world at other Countries outside of Germany and look at their interpretations of the breed standard you will find some absolute abominations anatomically. For example many Czech dogs sold to the USA are anatomically speaking absolutely dreadful but the USA still buy them. This example is also seen in Countries other than the USA. People will just buy something which is just the flavour of the moment.

I do not think anyone likes the way some people in China care for their dogs.

I do not think that Ebo v DeDe's head is consistently produced from the breeding family behind him. Breeding is not an exact science and therefore sometimes an irregularity is seen. It is certainly not the worst head that I have seen.

No need for the sv to 'rewrite' the breed standard. The va and v dogs aren't appointed per the standard anyway.

I think Jenni78 gave a very realistic and pragmatic response. Here is how I see it. Communist approach: The GSD breed belongs to us all, we breed to a standard that we all interpret in the same way. Capitalist approach: I like what happened in the breed over the last 100 years, I will capitalize on that and develop a line I like... maybe someone else will like it too. Then you talk about regulation and you see the spectrum: CKC less than AKC less than SV

There are some better dogs for breeding who are outside the VA Group. It is a matter of understanding how the breeding families come together to get better results.

AKC is not a breed Regulation agency..it is Only an All-breed registry that also licenses shows put on by All breed and/or Breed clubs.
The AKC does not dictate who or what you can breed to who, only that both parents be registered and be of the same breed...It is not a breed club as is the sv.
