Q Man

by Q Man on 06 September 2014 - 01:09

I thought I saw her DOB was 3/11/14...that means she's not quite 6 months old...I feed my young dogs RAW Chicken...they will chew and get calcium from the bones...I also massage the ears/bell to stimulate blood to the ear...I don't tape or glue ears...

"...that means she's not quite 6 months old"

you kidding me!!!!!, the OP is a post of dissapointment and regret - my dog's ears never stood up till over 12mo and they are strong and erect as a dog's ears can be.

it would seem most other GSD lovers would have flipped him or worse by that time and missed out on a freakin awesome example of the breed.

WTF is wrong with you people.

please find another hobby

Try not skipping paragraphs again. The dog is over ten months old.  Your dogs ears are not strong.

To the OP.  The best suggestion is to try and find an old time Doberman breeder who taped ears back when they were cropped.  They tend to have the best techniques for getting the ears up.  It is getting pretty late, but I'd give it another try.

Here's just one of many sites that discuss the problems with a drop ear.

http://www.vetinfo.com/dog-ear-problems.html

Ear Infections: If you have a drop-eared dog, ear infection may be on ongoing problem. The warm, moist environment created by the fold in the ear flap is ideal for bacterial growth. Yeast and bacterial growth will cause odor in the ears. If the infection is confined to one ear, your dog may tilt her head in an attempt to equalize pressure. The ears may feel warm to the touch.

vk, there is all the difference in the world between being disappointed when a purebred dog turns

out to have a fault, feeling that it is not breedworthy, concern that its parents may have passed on the fault

or that the breeder knowingly perpetuated that fault  ...  and 'flipping' that dog.

The OP continues to own and work the dog;  s/he has just been disappointed and frustrated with what

they may see as a curtailment of future possibilities.  As would I be, in similar circumstances.

And please don't write about "most GSD lovers" in such a generalised and derogatory way;  you really

don't have justification for that, from this thred or any other.

Hundmutter,

What is there to "dislike" about the post I made?? I got the info right off of the link that was posted.

Jyl:  was a disagree, not a dislike.  Not sure who fed in wrong info but OP has said dog literally just turned 10 months,

so either they are lying or WD Eu got it wrong (or we are discussing two different dogs).
