"I know quite a few breeders who could conform, Daryl."

Name a couple then, and I'll bet they don't follow ALL of the forementioned "basics".

Hi Folks,

I offered a place to post these guidelines and the people who have YELLED the loudest about the horrible breeders backpedaled like no tomorrow. The love of the breed does not involve being paid nor does helping new inexperienced buyers. What does it matter if the guidelines are in a prime place that gets 10000s of hits or would you rather it is tucked in some hidden corner of this site that people can't find like the TOS? I don't think the question needs answering.

If I was a good writer I would do them all FREE of charge because I love DOGS in general and helping new members but I don't need to gang attack the old breeder members I disagree with.

If anyone would like to step forward to help new members make the right choices my offer stands. If I could pay you for the articles I would but I can't.

Regards,
GSD

I'll bet they do follow the basics like appropriate health checks (hips, elbows) and some extras (DM, thyroid, cardiac, temperament test).  Titles in one venue or another. I'm not going to site specific breeders here; if they want to list their pre-breeding requirements, that's up to them. My own dog has mutiple titles, has a CHIC certification and has been tested for DM. Her sire is a Sch3, CDX, agility titled, her dam titled and hip and elbow clear. She will only be bred to a dog with all the appropriate health certs and titles. I don't feel as if I'm the only owner of a female GSD who has set those standards. I wouldn't even  consider breeding her without them.

Why would you think so few are doing the right thing before breeding their dogs? We must travel in different circles, I rarely run into anyone who blindly breeds unxrayed, untitled GSD's. If you went to SV shows you would see how many breeders work hard to title and breed survey their dogs in an attempt to do the right thing. I saw about 150 of them last weekend and there will be even more at the US Sieger and NASS.

I'm not familar with many WL breeders, but those I do know would never consider breeding a dog without the basic health checks and testing its working ability first.

Well bred GSD's from all lines are available; buyers just need to understand how to identify their breeders.

I'm not sure how getting paid got involved in this thread.

Maybe the right thing to do would be to start a new thread asking for input from breeders regarding what they feel are appropriate per-breeding tests and take it from there?

Just to start on a single point, I've never purchased from one single breeder that encouraged me to spay or nueter.  Not one.

And ya gotta love this one, "I will not deliberately degrade any fancier, their dogs, or their kennel."

Daryl,

Really, lol.

Blitzen,

The pay came from this post and the next post saying no thanks to us not being able to pay. Sorry, if you feel I somehow sidetracked this thread but when asked here I will respond here.

How much do you pay for the articles you want to post on the site?

Just checking to see the conditions and terms, that answers my question.  I would have to pass.

I saw that, but took it as a joke. Shame on me.

Really, Daryl, you never purchased a pet quality dog from a breeder who asked that you neutered the dog?

I don't see any joke or lol. I see what it says, I am not real good at reading internet humor where there is none. lol.

My offer stands to any member who wants to write the guidelines and I think it should include the line Daryl posted ("I will not deliberately degrade any fancier, their dogs, or their kennel.")  it might stop some of the non-sense that takes place here but I also realize that any guidelines would never be binding on those who don't care about them.

Regards,
GSD
