That is probably a perfect speciment, however let down by the uneven ground it stood on, the grass hasn't been cut, who knows which way the wind was blowing, his collar is on too tight, a car in the car park has just started up and some birds have just flown over. Are you blind, of course we are never going to see the best side of this fine specimen bred for utility and performance in the working group.

Dopple, I trust you were as quick to obtain permission for posting that link? No?
People have every bloody right to get upset at the way halfwits use their animal's photos; perhaps particuarly when it's obvious that their knowledge is so limited.
Having seen the dog in the flesh on more than one ocassion, I can assure you that he is not the shape he looks to be in the photo.
Maybe post one of your own Dopple and give us all the chance of an education?

Dopple -
please show more sense than your post suggests. You know enough about the GSD having been on this board to know that this is a STANCE - when the dog is off lead, and not posed he has a very small angle from wither to tail. Blame the show stance if you will, and you are welcome to your opinion on that, but dont decry lovely top quality dogs -
Do us a favour Dopple - can you post on here a dog that you actually like ? That would help me for one, understand your feelings on the matter. Mo.

Hi Carol, I think what makes us (certainly me) so angry is the use of photos (in a derogatory way) without the permission of the owners... it's a vile habit on this forum practiced by more than one dope! Invariably, one is unable to reciprocate because we don't know (care?) who Dopple is... only that it's not too bright!

Carol, the point is, that using photos without permission in a derogatory way is out of order! If Dopple is "in the Breed" and cannot tell a decent dog when she sees one, perhaps she's in the wrong breed? Less than wonderful photos are ten a penny (sorry Mo), most of us can SEE that it's just the angle / stance / crappy handler (me), etc, etc... because we're "in the Breed".
I would expect someone "in the Breed" to be able to recognise the difference between a poor specimen and an unflattering photo, or at the very least, have sufficient savvy to reserve judgment.
Dopple owes Lararth GSD's an apology.

More than happy to apologise to the owners of this dog, nothing personal but I felt it represented exactly what was being discussed, i.e. a very extreme sloping (not even straight) topline.
I don't know if I have seen this dog in the flesh, but if this photo was of one of my dogs I would certainly not be using it to promote him.
If you want to know which dog I consider an excellent example of the breed, it is one that has won not only under breed specialists from BOTH sides, but many all rounders too, and at breed shows and general championship shows in this country with many group placings and Best in Show awards, as well as winning in Germany - work it out, there are not many who fit that description!
