Doppelganger,

That is probably a perfect speciment, however let down by the uneven ground it stood on, the grass hasn't been cut, who knows which way the wind was blowing, his collar is on too tight, a car in the car park has just started up and some birds have just flown over. Are you blind, of course we are never going to see the best side of this fine specimen bred for utility and performance in the working group.

Well said Nugget, excellent post.

Dopple, I trust you were as quick to obtain permission for posting that link?  No?

People have every bloody right to get upset at the way halfwits use their animal's photos; perhaps particuarly when it's obvious that their knowledge is so limited.

Having seen the dog in the flesh on more than one ocassion, I can assure you that he is not the shape he looks to be in the photo.

Maybe post one of your own Dopple and give us all the chance of an education?

Dopple -

please show more sense than your post suggests.   You know enough about the GSD having been on this board to know that this is a STANCE - when the dog is off lead, and not posed he has a very small angle from wither to tail.   Blame the show stance if you will, and you are welcome to your opinion on that, but dont decry lovely top quality dogs -
Do us a favour Dopple - can you post on here a dog that you actually like ?  That would help me for one, understand your feelings on the matter.   Mo.

hiya folks.most who have posted on here know me and my gsds and have for a very long time.now it looks like i,m going to be shot down.Firstly i do not mean to be rude/judgemental on any dog BUT,the link to Larath gsds,ie Enzo.i havent seen this male in the flesh but have to agree with the sentiments of Doppledanger,STANDARD STATES GENTLY SLOPING FROM WITHERS TO CROUP.Now would one describe the topline in THAT PHOTO gently sloping?????.i do appreciate and have stated in many posts that ONE NEEDS TO SEE THESE ANIMALS IN THE FLESH.when left to their own devices and these gsds stand naturally THEY DO CONFORM TO THE STATEMENT OF GENTLY SLOPING.there are only 2 photos that i have seen that i would willingly chose to promote my bitch, which are the ones on my facebook photos on my profile page.her photos have appeared in the nat.mag on a no.of occasions and these present her as being exagerated in the topline, which she and most others are definitely not.please folks scrutinise your photos and chose better ones that reflect the true topline on your dogs.hope i havent offended anyone,as i too hate it when ppl.say my bitch has a roach/banana back.Carole S.

Hi Carol, I think what makes us (certainly me) so angry is the use of photos (in a derogatory way) without the permission of the owners... it's a vile habit on this forum practiced by more than one dope!  Invariably, one is unable to reciprocate because we don't know (care?) who Dopple is... only that it's not too bright!

hi Misbeeb.i do know who dopplegander is and this person has been/is still in the breed and had/has shepherds of the more german type.i find it so frustrating that the photos which are presented show the animals in a totally exagerated way.some on here(mainly in the classified ads)have made me cringe, showing a lovely lookin animal at the front till yu reach the withers, then it looks as if they,ve got no back at all with the excessive slope from just behind the withers steeply down to the croup and the hock joint flat to the floor.it seems as if the dog is sinking into the ground.i like the look of Sharons dog very much.he has an excellent front from the pic.with an excellent male head with a dark mask, strong ears, good bone and substance, wither height normal, then the slope from withers to croup gives the impression as being too steep.it seems to drop steeply from just behind the withers.no doubt when i see him in the flesh he will not give me that impression.i take chiki to a hydropool and one of the owners there who does her sessions has taken quite a shine to her.she said that she thought she prefered the english type but after seeing chiki thinks she might also be liking some of the german type.the week the sieger supp.appeared in DOG WORLD she commented that most of the animals shown in this publication she DID NOT LIKE,as the backlines looked to drop too steeply in her opinion, and that chiki DID NOT resemble these dogs.In her words ,ppl.in the main will make their assumptions from these photos and the unnatural stances they are put into by handlers/the double handling.i think she has a point,as that is exactly wot i tell ppl.that the b/l and the look of unsoundness is in the majority cases caused by the method of showing,ie.pulling too hard into the collar, making the back whip up ,scrabbling at the front and the digging in at the back.i see it all in chiki out on walks when she,s on the lead trying her hardest to get to either that rabbit or squirell.we only have ourselves to blame i,m afraid.well thats the way i see it.Carole S.

Carol, the point is, that using photos without permission in a derogatory way is out of order!  If Dopple is "in the Breed" and cannot tell a decent dog when she sees one, perhaps she's in the wrong breed?  Less than wonderful photos are ten a penny (sorry Mo), most of us can SEE that it's just the angle / stance / crappy handler (me), etc, etc... because we're "in the Breed".

I would expect someone "in the Breed" to be able to recognise the difference between a poor specimen and an unflattering photo, or at the very least, have sufficient savvy to reserve judgment.

Dopple owes Lararth GSD's an apology.

Hi Babs,

totally agree with you.

Mo.

by Doppelganger on 10 November 2010 - 17:11

Since when do I need permission to post a LINK?

More than happy to apologise to the owners of this dog, nothing personal but I felt it represented exactly what was being discussed, i.e. a very extreme sloping (not even straight) topline.

I don't know if I have seen this dog in the flesh, but if this photo was of one of my dogs I would certainly not be using it to promote him.

If you want to know which dog I consider an excellent example of the breed, it is one that has won not only under breed specialists from BOTH sides, but many all rounders too, and at breed shows and general championship shows in this country  with many group placings and Best in Show awards, as well as winning in Germany - work it out, there are not many who fit that description!
