Its coat was so "plush" that it was difficult to see, it was American AKC type, but not near to the degree as pictured above.......There were some roached and some bananas and neither on won unless they were the only ones in class.

There were no decent German show line dogs entered. Hero and Sita made quite a stir with the judges and contestants there......... Many asked why they were not entered, especially Hero.

My answer to a judge was "I see what you picked, why should I bother entering, my dog's wouldn't have a chance to win. My dogs have solid rear ends, they aren't lame." I guess the judge is used to brown-nosers, because her mouth dropped open in shock with my answer. She recovered enough to say something to the effect that she is forced to pick the least worst dog. I replied with "So you're telling me that had I entered, my dogs would have won?" Her reply was "probably not." I smiled turned and walked away - it was time to go to Schutzhund practice......didn't want to be late.

SM, what show was this? Surprised an AKC show let you on the grounds without showing an exhibitor pass, so I'd like to know which show it was. They try pretty hard to eliminate non-entered dogs from walking around. Which is good because otherwise, oy, everybody'd be bringing their poopsie-pets to the dog show for a stroll just because they could.

Which kennel club was it?

This particular show was held on the east side of the greater houston metro area last month. I've brought my un-entered dogs both AKC (the sit quietly by my side when I watch the GSD's in the ring, near where other dogs are preparing waiting) and Schutzhund tirals (they are crated except for lunch and breaks during trials).

I don't go around doing stupid things and make sure that all dogs keep a respectable distance from one another.........just like at SchH practice. I handle them as if they were being shown. They are groomed and in top condition. My dogs are better behaved then most so people don't even think twice.....No one stops me.

We have a big 3-day show in Wichita every spring and I brought my old girl with me not knowing they weren't allowed if not competing. No one said a word to me either. Since I found out, I haven't taken one with me but I see others and know they are not competing. I think the people running the show have way more on their minds than policing the audience. Too many dogs, different breeds and exhibitors running around to separate them from the curious. Had I brought my current girl with me this year I could have had her tested for herding for a fee. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I wasn't implying that yours weren't well behaved. I live in the Northeast and we're more densely populated; I'm sure people do bring dogs in but show organizers do try to watch out for it and not let them in. It's crowded enough with dogs & people and, nothing against you two, but as an exhibitor I greatly appreciate the No Unentered Dogs rule. Ringside is highly congested and shade is at a minimum, so nope, don't want to deal with even well-behaved dogs that don't have to be there. Actually, it's the sure-fire sign of a dogshow n00b when they bring their own dogs along! Shows here are very large and as someone who's worked at them as well as exhibited, we are nice to the n00bs but stress please do NOT ever bring your dog again, but why don't you train him and come back in the obedience or rally ring if you want him to come along? Then we tell them about that.

I've been to lots and lots of AKC shows including being an officer in 2 different clubs. The rule is on the books, but I've never personally seen it enforced. If the dog was well behaved, I've never known it to be a problem.

I've often taken pups for socialization and never been questioned.

Socilization is the main reason, and to see what the reaction would be with American AKC lines when some German bred dogs showed up.........

It was funny to see their faces......

Do you have German Shepherd specialty shows in the US?

Here in Australia we have quite a number of Specialty shows each year and they are all I ever enter. I Never enter multi breed shows ever. I am not after Championship points all I would like is to gain an excellent medal at our National Show !!!!!!!!! Maybe one day. Two years ago my bitch was placed 10 Junior bitch from 31 entered.
