i feel sorry for your dogs.  Every dog I have ever owned has bonded and played with me.  When I take them onto a trial field where there is another dog, they want nothing to do with the other dog.

the reason=  we are a pack and that other dog offers nothing in my dogs mind.  you rely on multiple dogs to fulfill eachother.

you keep using humans as an example, but dogs are not human. They live by different rules.

i can answer the walking 2 at a time question......with my two, if we are just walking, not too bad. if they see another dog, rabbit, squirrel, skunk, a favorite person, it gets very hard to hold onto them, very fast, unless i have gentle leaders on them. they work great. i love biking with my dogs, it was great with one dog but it's awesome with 2, especially going uphill. as far as maintenance, i would definitely say 2 gsds is not that bad, alot less time-consuming than my current gsd and standard poodle. it takes me minimum 3 hours every 3 weeks to keep my poodle properly groomed. for many years i only had one dog, then when she died i wanted another good bike-pulling dog. i took my late gsd boy nenz cuz he was free, and so gorgeous. he bonded to me immediately but his hips were injured previously or something and i could not work him. i got spunky cuz she came with a 24 month health guarantee, and she is a great pulling dog. when nenz died i felt kinda lost holding just one leash and got fluffy. they are very bonded to each other. they protect each other if they think they need it. everybody always comments on how much they love each other and people walking by like to stop and watch them play in the yard. they are so much fun. they love each other but don't seem to care for other dogs other than trying to dominate them.

To MVF:

Indian legend says.
The God separated the  earth into two chunks  by ever larger gap. On one side of the gap was a man on the other were all the animals. As the gap between the two islands was  getting bigger and bigger, in last moment, the dog jumped over it and and join the man.
That's what I believe. :))))
