First see if she will snack  down a very sour dill pickle (most dogs will not) or a piece of raw lemon.  If she won't snack those down, use the lemon or sour pickle juice on the turds and let her out.. see what happens (it may not work because the eating of poop can be habitual or compulsive or it may work and you have to keep at if for a few weeks.. sorry..).

E collar may work.. turned up a bit more than just making her wiggle an ear (like yelp level) when you hit the button (last resort sort of thing).

Straight off the shelf Cayenne Pepper sprinkled liberally on the poop (will make Colon Blow look like vaseline).

Whisky.. most dogs hate whisky.. but damn.. that is a heckuva waste of whisky... (just sayin')

My female Fiest went EPI last fall and she started eating poop then but after we started her on Enzymes and she got her weight back it never happened again.

I appreciate all the helpful replys, Her conditions are clean runs on concrete and washed twice a day. I thought I remeber once hearing or reading something about stress induced issue,s.. not sure it,s almost a manic issue if I didn,t know better.

Bob, did your dog do this as a little pup? Was she kenneled a lot when younger too? Just wandering if she did it out of boredom or what.  I "do" wander about something else too......the dogs I've noticed that tend to have a poop eating habit the most.....seem to be the ones who are more high drive,or ones who always want to carry something in their mouth.  It "may not" have anything to do with it, but the dog my mum had who did that......if she had a tennis ball or some other type of ball....she didn't do it that much. Instead she'd just carry it around everything for the most part.

Has she been through a heat cycle lately? I have one female that a few weeks after she finishes her heat cycle will devour
her own poop. My best guess is a false pregnancy in our case. That is the only time she will eat her OWN poop... cat turds are
always on the menue. LOL

i have had a pup do this and it took me almost a year to get her to the point to aviod it. its funny as even today its still there and when she takes a crap she is licking her lips , but know to walk away.
she is now 7 years. she was the same- nothing  work, i also know it could be that she is not asorbing all of food. i just supervise her and always picked up , so she could not eat it, this over time is what worked for me.  yes this problem can drive you nuts.

My first thought was EPI, too. They say poop eating is a subclinical sign. Have you tried mixing a little bit of enzymes in her food? jackie harris

Did all the testing and No EPI. Normally if it,s EPI the poop is butterscotch color and very pudding like. These are nice tootsie roll shaped turds...

I would try probiotics (work up to billions of CFU's of lactobacillus and bifidobacter strains which are the primary friendly strains in the GI tract) for an extended period of time, especially if this dog has been on antibiotics in the past.

My dogs used to eat deer poop...I put them on 2.5 billion CFU's of probiotics (Primal Defense and Kyo-dophilus) for a few months and they no longer even think about picking it up when they're out, whether I'm watching them closely or not.  I usually give my dogs a maintenance dose of probiotics a couple of times a week, but I put them both on twice daily doses because my female developed a lung infection (Blastomycosis) and was put on an antifungal and high levels of Cephalexin the first week to fight any secondary infection. It was just as easy to give them both the same amount...didn't expect to see any major changes, but it's been a number of months now, and neither one has gone back to eating deer poop.

Chicken is soaked in chlorine to kill the bacteria so it stays "fresh" while it sits in the grocery store...it absorbs some of the chlorine, so they then inject the chicken with salt water so we can't taste the chlorine.  A diet change might be very helpful for this girl.

You might also consider adding enzymes...you can experiment with over the counter Pancreatin 8x (breaks down proteins, fats and carbs) or even bromelain (from pineapple plant) or papain (from papaya)...both of which break down proteins...to see if you see any improvement.  Otherwise there are a number of canine products available, such as Totalzymes. etc.

A TLI/cobalamin/folate test might be enlightening...the TLI to check for EPI (pancreatic insufficiency) and the cobalamin/folate to see is she's dealing with a small intestinal bacteria overgrowth/imbalance.  There's a lot of good information about EPI and SIBO on www.epi4dogs.com

Good luck.

I've had dogs that ate their own and all other stools they could get. Tried every product on the market and finally came to the conclusion that some dogs just love the taste of it. To those dogs, a turd is like a godiva chocolate to most of us.

I've also had very fastedious dogs that would not get anywhere near a pile of stool, theirs or that of any other animal. They might have turned to look at what they did, but most would have run in the opposite direction to get away from the source of their embarassment. My current GSD will go 20 feet out of the way to avoid passing anywhere  near a pile and I swear I can see a look of disgust on her face if she sees a neighbor's dog making a deposit.

On the bright side, it's probably a left over survival characteristic from the days when wild dogs and wolves devoured their own waste so that their enemies couldn't find them easily. So, if you take the high road and consider your stool eaters survival experts, when you get a sloppy kiss from one that has just done the deed, maybe you won't feel quite so nauseated. In fact it could be a good advertising point - both parents are proven world class survival experts.

Good luck.
