Was he crossed with those GSDs that were bred with Akita's?

Pretty hard to straighten the tail on an Akita x, color is wrong, too. I saw two wl gsd x akita a couple years ago in tractor supply.  It was very obvious what they were and both dogs were dry athletic. Akita has a streight back with flat croup almost pig legged behind...opposite of the dog pictured in this thred.

If you search for 'The Chinese GSD' you will see why I figured they breed this first dog with the Chinese GSD.

This looks more like most overdone German types I've been seeing lately. I'm not a fan of loose flews, apple-dome heads, any of that. I've seen one GSD in person that has a short broad muzzle that looks much better for a rottweiler than any GSD. That dog attained a VA in the US.

However, a lot of the breeds in the east have lines bred for excessive skin folds at the head. They take it to extremes.

I agree; it's simply a matter of 'selection' and not cross breeding multiple breeds. I've also seen that the loose skin with heavy dewlap and hanging flews is in vogue with the judges.
