Michelle, generally speaking, ethical and honest GSD breeders never breed litters out of unxrayed/uncertified parents at the minimum. Many test for a number of other health issues too such as eyes, thyroid, cardiac, DM and so on and many prove their dogs by titling them or challenging them in some venue before they even consider them for breeding. Sorry you got burned, but you may have no other choice other than taking a risk with a pup out of unxrayed parents (not the best breeding prospect unless the pup and the parents are both xrayed and cleared), keep the pup you have and sell it to a nice pet home or just cut your losses and move on. I know the kennel you thought you were buying from and I am pretty sure he would never breed a litter out of unxrayed parents.
Good luck

I did some research and found the GOOD kennel first..It did take me a couple minutes to realize it wasnt the kennel you got your puppy from. I realized I was looking at the wrong kennel when I looked to see where they were located and they are in Arizona. So I looked again and found the CORRECT kennel in Illinois. On the home page of the site for the kennel you got you puppy from it says THEY TEST FOR HIPS, ELBOWS, HEART AND THYROID!! But in the case of the female pup you are looking at they have not done any xrays yet... That would be a HUGE RED FLAG to me!! I would run the other way fast!
From what you have mentioned I would take the pup and sell it, if that is your only option and you can not get your money back. You have faced heart ache once, and the chance are (with this breeder) not in your favor of getting anything better. There are far more GREAT breeders out there that do health testing BEFORE they breed their dogs. These are the breeders that really care about the health of the breed. I would do some more research and talk to people on this forum as well as check out your local schutzhund club and go from there.
If you plan on stay more with the Czech lines (which I must say I am very partial too) there are several very good breeders in the USA that work and health test their dogs BEFORE breeding them...
Good luck and hope everything works out for you.

Yes he says that he does all that but in reality he doesn't - even the litter page for the female I am getting says the parents are health tested - and they are not! Grr, just makes me mad. I test before I breed and in Aussies there is ALOT to test for! I took all that he told me through many phone conversations before purchasing my puppy as the truth and really he was just feeding me lines and I fell for it. I know he doesn't test for DM as he thinks it's a BS test, which I was ok with, I do test for that and I would have just tested my puppy. Not everyone is on board with that test and I understand that - but hips and elbows are a bare minimum! It's too bad I have to return the male puppy to him as I would rather donate him to a military ptsd organization near me, he would be great for that. This guy is just not willing to negotiate from the sounds of it. Lesson learned here for sure! I've gotten some great dogs from great breeders over the years and I'd just go back to the one I got my DDR girl from, but the litters she has that I like are related to my girl.

Wonder if this is the same breeder who's pedigrees I helped correct a while back. I can't remember the kennel's name but the dogs were all working lines from what I remember. They really messed their pedigrees up so I fixed them as it drove my OCD nuts. They said the dogs were OFA hip tested as GOOD. I however searched the OFA site and not a single one of their dogs they registered here was ever tested by the OFA. So I took that off the pedigrees and I also told them not to put false health tests scores on the pedigrees in the future. Didn't think about saying not to put false test scores on any other websites even their own, though. Quite an oversight I could kick myself for. And I'm usually good at finding loopholes and closing them up. I'll just have to remember this in the future and warn them about putting false health tests scores anywhere. Also if one pup has health issues from them the other might as well. So I don't think they would do very well in any sort of showing. Plus breeding any pup with such health issues is not something anyone should ever consider. You'd just be continuing what the previous bad breeder did by breeding dogs of bad health. I personally think any dog that has bad health tests should be spayed or neutered to prevent them from passing it on. Dogs would not have so much darn hip and elbow dysplasia and other bad genetic health issues if people did.
