Pirates Lair

Having a Working Line pedigree does not "Qualify" the dog(s) as actual Working Dog(s) in the Real World.

From what I saw in the video, this is a very promising pup!

I would liked to have seen the Decoy/Helper challenge the pup more for the tube. Make the pup work harder/target for it and not have it fed to him.

No blame on the Decoy/Helper, we all have to learn sometime...... and we all have lots to learn.

I am very impressed with the fact that the pup is Not Focused on the Equipment!

Very nice pup! Good looking too!

Hey Kim long time no see or hear from............saw your Hokey Va Pe pups..WooHoo.........I just finished talking to the owner/breeder/handler and I told her I was also impressed by the fact he could care less about the equipment but was focused on Reed. Yep I studied on this a while and I think this is going to be very good. Shoutout to Lana for making sure there is more substance to them than an AKC CH.

I wish more ASL breeders would raise their puppies as this dog has been raised. So many  discourage any biting, playing with tugs, etc.. Many ASL puppies with this sort of temperament end up in pet homes living on farms.

Good luck with the litter, vonissk. They should be really good pups and you know how to raise them right. They won't have their mouths held shut or fingers jammed down their throats to prevent them from biting.

Nice comments and suggestions, Kim and bzcz.

Thanks Blitzen. No I won't be sticking my finger down their throats--I'll be encouraging them.

Something I wanted to say here. Maybe there was an intervention for the other breeding not to take. I say that because in this past year I have met old timers who knew these dogs--including Shadow's sire--you know I have always said that it's not as important what Joe Blow says as someone who saw and had their hands on the dogs. I also believe certain blood is stronger and adds more to the mix, so to speak. I have owned my male over 9 years now and I know his blood is strong. I know where other blood is--I know where some top quality frozen semen is--all German--from way back and I looked at other options. But I feel this is the best compliment for my girl. I didn't breed her to sell puppies--we are keeping 2 back, one goes to Bec and I am hoping for the perfect co owner for one. Then I don't plan to do any more breeding for 2-3 years. I want to work dogs and see if what I bred has the spark I am so thinking it will........................my dreams and goals come way before the dollar bill.

Today is National Dog Day according to the local news. So everybody hug their puppers.....................

at 40 seconds into the video, the dog was barking at the helper, not the pillow. is the dog in prey drive or aggression/defense drive?

by bzcz on 26 August 2014 - 19:08

THe dog the whole time is in defense.  Confidence needs built up some and the helperwork needs to be better to progress the dog.  The grips are rewarded at the wrong time and the fight isn't correct.  The dog should also be not on the backtie at this stage of their training.  My understanding is that he's a new helper (and we all were there) and he's doing his best.  Just has more to learn, like we all do.

It's great to see them both out there doing it.  That's a huge first step for both of them and I congratulate them on taking it!
