The kennel does not strike me as a scam it is more like a beginner thinking doing the right thing but not knowing what it is. I would not bee too hard on them. They will either learn more fast or they will self eliminate themselves.

Blitzen,

On 6/28 OP posted "i have seen dogs with pedigrees that have alot of titles in the pedigrees for the same price. Thought i might be missing something, so my future pup i will look elsewhere for"

thus my reply offering education and help.

WOW, i been breeding gsd for 20 yrs , as a small breeder i know what it takes to produce 1 quality litter from 2 quality import dogs.

First is the cost of breed stock. Second is cost of feed untill you breed them. Third is vet cost untill you breed them. This is not taking in count any of the time that it takes out of your life to do these things 24/7. Then we come to the pups being born! Now we have all the above cost times how ever many pups there are. So lets say we keep the pups for 10 weeks. i live on the country and it is alittle cheaper vet bills here, per pup it cost me 12$ for a stool sample, 12 $ to worm each pup i do that twice by 10 week and then the first shot is 15$ and now the micro-chip is 12$ per pup i do that myself. So lets add it up i spend 75$ just getting the pup ready for sale. Its all math folks!!!! You have to figure in the depreciation of breed stock also they are only good for a few prime years of breeding, then you either have BUY more breed stock or quit breeding or go out of the buisness. The puppy factorys are not free! and if you can not put a price into your pups to cover these cost you are not a buisness person you will loose money quickly.  1000$ per pup is just about breaking even!!! But this is when you are breeding from import parents. I cant sell 1 of my pup for that and come out on it.

Well in the future i wanted to start breeding(to better the breed of course) and i am just trying to learn about pedigree and titles, and things to look for. and i dont want to buy a dog just because someone says the parents have good hips(without ofa) and east and west german without knowing what i am looking at so i dont end up with just a very high priced pet, i would like to get into working dogs, and i ran across this kennel on facebook, so i checked out the web sight. but having a German Shepherd that is a pet i like to think i know enough about his pedigree that when i see a pedigree that looks no different than my dog to stay away, i just didn't know if i was overlooking something, i mean she offers a hip gaurntee on her puppies but the parents dont seem to be ofa. I mean does that matter? and i sure dont want a working dog who's dad is 140 lbs. so i am going to keep looking, there is a kennel near me and she has titled parents and she is always working her dogs.so i think i will visit them, but for future refference what do i need to look for in a pedigree to know i am getting breed quality, what would it look like if it were east or west? i do know enough that the parents need to have all there health test with the paper to back that up.

Well Von D you are already partway there when you say that you would rather take a look at a

breeder you know is working and titling her dogs.  Even those who are scathing on here about

the worth of working titles will usually admit they would rather see breeders and owners getting

their GSDs to do some sort of sport or work and show that they are at least trying to raise

Shepherds worth the name, than making unsubstantiated claims on websites and then sitting

around on their butts doing nothing with their dogs.

You say that you already know that when buying a dog - or puppy - you need to see proof

that both parents have been health tested.  So it puzzled me a bit that you wondered whether

it was alright to accept assurances about the good hip status of stock being produced and

offered for sale, when it did not appear the parents of those had OFA Ratings.  No,it isn't 100%

foolproof but it's something at least  just to know Mom & Dad have been OFA'd,  BUT YOU

SHOULD ALWAYS ASK TO SEE THE WRITTEN PROOF OF THE RESULTS.  The breeder

of my current dog, here in England, always used to put a photocopy of both sire & dams HD

XRay score sheets in every Puppy Pack.   Incidentally we have someone in the UK who used

to think she knew her lines so well that her pups were all completely HD free, without any testing.

Time and again, buyers got caught out by that when they scored pups who turned out severely

dysplastic. Its been made nearly impossible for her to breed now;  she treated buyers so badly

in that and other regards (registration papers etc etc) and she latterly had all her dogs running

loose together so she could not have known which dog mated which bitch, and they were soon

so inbreed they started losing legs and eyes, had viability problems from birth, and so on.  And

she is a qualified Veterinarian.    Breeders who make unsubstantiated claims we can ALL well do

without.

It is pretty difficult to describe why one Pedigree looks East German and another looks West German,

or why one shows in the names / lines on it that they are mainly sports or working stock and another

all Show Dogs.   You just have to read a lot;  using PDB is ideal because you will gradually recognise

which kennel names belong to which 'camp';  maybe other posters can tell you a quicker way to build

this knowledge.

She has a least one dog from titled stock in the background- Puma. Hence the "From titled lines" reference.

I am sure most all of us on here have been suckered at least once. If they say they have health tests, then make them show you. If they don't have health tests--keep on looking elsewhere. Even then sometimes, things arn't what they advertise. A lot of "horse traders" in the dog world. Keep learning and good luck with the future pup.
