If his face didn't have so much black surrounding the eyes, it wouldn't stand out as much. If his face had more of the lighter color of his cheeks as many do, the color would be not detract as much since it would be basically the same color as the surrounding coat color. They can get darker with age.

We are supposed to be looking at the OP's pics, not Lineage's
example photo.
The (original German) Standard calls for dark as poss. eyes; they are supposed
to be in keeping with facial colour, so the darker the mask, the darker the eye.
OP's dog has a much lighter mask than the WolfLake dog supplied
by Lineage (who BTW has many more things wrong with his head and
expression than just his eye colour IMO). Therefore the lighter eyes 'stand out'
less on the OP's dog.
Not 'correct', but not unusual in purebred specimens either, as has been said.
Dawulf you are obviously entitled to your opinion, but in my own they are not
just 'striking', they are headlamps.
And 'Fry, as neither of the two dogs is pictured standing up, surely your remark
about 'frog-dogs' was ill-judged, we have no idea what shape the OP's dog is ?

Wolf Lake what a cute fuzzy bear head; looks good but can he/she work???
PS: Your dog does not know or care if his eyes are light or dark; does not care if he is a LC or Stock coat, does not care what color he may be. I can see in both of the dogs above they just love you unconditionally... That is what I see in those eyes.
Great days everyone, Nan

The great breeder Alfred Hahn of Busecker Schloss kennels, said he always found a correlation between light eyes and top working ability, I understand the standard, but i have immense respect for that kennel that produced top working and show stock which is what I strive for. I would not worry about the light eyes, enjoy your dog!

This is a capture of Saber90s dog on Flickr, I don't know if Flckr allows embed and such, but the image originals are huge, so smaller versions should be made. Saber you should add your dog to the pedigree database, and we can see it and the bloodline more easy.

If the standard tomorrow called for a light eye, some people would be falling over themselves to breed for a light eye. What I am getting at is that there are some things in the standard which are truly significant and some which are less so, and have appeared due to 'taste' or 'preference'. He is a beautiful boy, he is definitely a GSD and you love him......that's all that counts!
