a good dog is a good dog, no matter how it looks :)

Prissyzilla, most common reason for ear tips to be missing on a dog whose ears stand up is from biting flies.  Outdoor dogs in the summertime without fly/bug repellent on their ears often get chewed up pretty badly, if it's neglected then they most certainly can and will lose the tips of ears.   I find it very doubtful that a dog lose both ear tips to horse bites...

@euroshepherd
Flies possibly for one ear, but not the second ear. I highly doubt "the horse did it story" since i've never seen a dog stick around a horse long enough for their ears to be bitten off. One of her ears is almost completely gone and the other is just more than half there. When we picked her up he gave us that story, and he was keeping them out with the horses, so possibly?? He did have some fly repelling cow ear tags attached to his dogs collars though and those usually work wonderfully for keeping flies away, so that's why I doubt flies were the culprit. Either way, she's my Bear girl :) I personally think its cute. :)

Hundmutter Duke  was about 13 years when the picture was taken. I did not know his exact age. He died about 2.5 years later. True warrior. Now he is making one of my trees greener.

My Remy's daughter Seffe is my gift from God. Her ears did not stand so I got to keep her. Working service dog , smart and a love. Great PR for our breed as I allow my service dogs to smooze when people ask. The public NEVER fails to recognize her as a GSD. I've taught her to wave and high 5 etc and the kids just love it. Strange thing is her ears are up when she sleeps - go figure. Would think it would be the other way around.

One of her sisters also had iffy ears to say the least . She works w/ a deputy sheriff and several years ago tracked a little girl who had been kidnapped to the house where she was being held and they rescued her. Somehow I think that little girls parents and the deputy really didn't care about her ears right then.

About 10 years ago, I heard that there was a top vet in So CA who could fix GSD ears that did not come up.  I have been trying to find his name and address.  Of course, no one knew who he was, so I assumed that he was retired.  Well today, I found his name and looked him up.  At some time he himself had a German GSD who was trialed. I have never thank goodness had to use him.  I just heard about him.  Seems he moved his practice and evidently does not work as hard as he did, as part time.  I called his former hospital which he still owns, but he works at a different place. Here is his information ~~
