Grayson

Yeah,  she doesnt seem to have the typical agouti pattern so I´m pretty sure it´s sable.

I'm wondering if she's a liver.

by Hutchins on 15 February 2013 - 06:02

I don't think so Blackthorn.  Don't Livers usually have a liver colored nose and the eyes lids are that color also. What about the color of their eyes. Lips are also nice and very dark.  No lack ofg pigment there either.   I just don't see those characteristics in this girl.

I had a bitch like that once, at 12 months old she looked a normal black and tan. With each moult she just got lighter and lighter and by 4 years of age she was identical to the dog in the first picture. I don't know if it's a connection or not but she also had light [almost amber] coloured eyes. Her dam was similar too.

I enjoyed all your comments very much. Doing the cleanup here I see a good deal and many simal to thi one, but usually with a dark mask and pale sadle or a pale face and a dark back.
Ibrahim, this dog is interesting in that it has both. Here area couple more for you all :-)
.Dark Face with very pale back, but the tan color is rich.

Like others I havered over whether the first dog Ibrahim posted
was a paled out black&tan saddle,  or a paled out red sable.  I
think on balance its a red sable.  Actually I think its "wishy-washy"
and 'orrible, but that's just me !  And then Lineage puts up that
'double dilute' ... and that's even worse ...

Ibrahim you will need to post images of the parents to know if it is a Sable with little black or a Black/Tan with little black. for sure.

I think it's a paled out saddle black/red--mainly because I've seen that happen before. What surprised me is how much of the saddle turned to dark tan/red when it paled out. Even light sables generally have broader coverage of black, even if it's not dark. Unless, of course, the sable gets that same paling gene.....

I don't know who the parents are, I don't know the dog personally, I saw the pictures and as I have never seen this color before I was amazed what it could be, personally I am lost between pale red sable and pale black/red, all above posters have valid individual debate. I tend to think GSD Lineage multi photos post rules out blue and liver, but would love to hear what others say.
