Yes free enterprise in a free country with the compulsion and obsession to try and make themselves feel better with retail therapy.
Having the ability to purchase a living animal that they will have someone else take care of because they will get bored. For most of us though we have a different kind of connection with our animals.

Simple answer: THEY DON'T DO IT FOR PROFIT BUT FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE BREED!

To some people, $5000 is a huge sum, to others, it's pocket change.
Price is relative to economic status in most cases.
I applaud those that invest the time, money and resources to make great dogs
available to American breeders. Instead of picking those people apart, one should
look at what the dog brings to the table and decide if the dog can compliment and
compensate with their bitch.
