Rik, relax. forums are often used to test ideas and gain more insights - that was the purpose of the post.

vk, I can assure you I am old, experenced and relaxed.  You asked for advice, then came back with  " don't really care what official breed judges would say ".

So why would you care about what folks on a message board, who are not "offical breed judges" would say. You have it worked out. Do it and come back and tell us how successful it was.

Sadly, I'm sure you can find a number of folks willing to "rent" their bitch.

I have to say, though, as someone with a nice bitch (so I hear from stud owners who are trying to talk me out of retiring her, lol), I would be VERY leery of someone coming to me with a plan like this. If the breeding was so great, I'd be doing it myself;-). If not, then would I really do it for money??? I think not. I'm sure I'm not alone in that, either. Approaching ethical breeders with a plan where they are basically to do a breeding they may not condone simply for extra cash may not sit well with some of them. I'm afraid some of the ones who jump all over the idea aren't going to have the quality you want...or that should be bred.

What is it you want that as a novice, you can't find?

vk,
If
a) The male is approved by the bitch owner;
b) You purchase the semen and pay the vet fee for A.I.
... I think you have the right to have the first pick of the litter! - No rental needed.

I once did an original business proposal.
One guy asked me to use my male dog as the stud to its bitch.
I went to see the bitch and I liked her.
So, my proposal was to take the bitch immediatelly and pay the all litter at 10 weeks after birth ( my pick was the adult bitch) - He accepted.

That would be termed a lease.  The American Kennel Club has lease forms to validate this kind of agreement.  If you think of entering into a verbal agreement like this, you could get stung and end up paying a stud fee and not getting even one pup out of the litter.  And to hatch this plan overseas makes it even crazier.  Even having a written contract with someone overseas would be difficult to enforce.

Best of luck on getting your pick puppy.  If you find a Breeder you like and has what you want, the best idea is to be patient and wait till they have exactly what you want, even if it takes a couple of years.

Again, I wish you well.

I like your way of thinking, outside the box they force us to live in.

I am myself in the same boat, I have the best bitch, finding and being allowed to use the male is my problem.
Most don't want anyone to do better then them, even if you have one of their pups it seems.

If someone came to me with a proposal to use my bitch, I would seriously look into it, due to they might know something more then me.
My next mating is because someone chased me for it, and we have picked the right male, now just waiting for her to come into season. They want a female to mate to their male. So I will keep the girl pup as I would of done and when she is old enough put her to their male, for their next pup. That is where it gets tricky, because I am not sure if I want their mating to be on my kennel name. So I am sure there is many more things I haven't thought about, but will worry about that when closer.

What makes a bitch "the best"? If the bitch is so great, why is there a problem "being allowed" to use a certain male? If a stud owner is refusing, I would think they may have very good reason, and possibly know something you don't. I would be very careful assuming it's because they are afraid you'd then have something better than what they have. I have never been refused the stud of my choice- on the contrary, the stud owners were thrilled to have a nice bitch to breed with their male to increase the quality offspring out there bearing their male's name, if you want to look at it from a business/ego standpoint. From a dog standpoint, they're happy to use their male to produce better and better specimens of the breed we love.

appreciate the varied opinions - this crazy plan as i am finding out is not that uncommon,  it has established protocols already in place.

anyhoo, it was all just thinking out loud - the owner of the female and sires know nothing about this and may never need to.

JMO but if you do all this I would get it all in writing. My question to you is this? What are your plans for the puppy you keep back---bitework or AKC performance???? If you just got someone to make this deal with you--itwould seem to me that you would want your name on those papers as breeder of this super puppy. I would legally lease her and get the paperwork from AKC to do all that. Haven't read it in a long time....20 years ago---------There are a lot of things to consider in a legal contract about all the different requirements etc..........JMO anyway................but as a breeder I wouldn't do it--that's a money deal and I'm not into money-------------as an animal lover I know somewhere on this green earth that has the same lines is someone and it would be one less ltter of puppies being born................but then everybody has to do what they have to do........

VK, now really think about this;  BAD IDEA.  What if something happens to the female, YOU are responsible.  YOu are better off to just buy a female from the female you are talking about leasing;  much safer and no one is responsible but you for your puppy.  What if she after all this AI's and such does not conceive or what if she dies or aborts or??  Million and one things can happen;  either buy a puppy out of her or  buy her outright.  BOL  Nan
