Dogs don't have to work today.
"Anyone who doesn't know what lines they're breeding.
"
Nothing wrong with outcrossing
Anyone who brags about breeding dogs as family pets, and nothing more.
Most dogs are pets.

You can know the lines and the history of the lineage and still outcross to a known lineage and know what was produced in the past.
my dogs are pets first and foremost. They are my companions, but then a solid temperament coupled with drive and courage usually make awesome pets and familly dogs. That goes without saying, no need to advertise that

Does one who is very opinioned make a good breeder?
In some circumstances he is not.
It is likely not good to give the impression that the only reasonable GSD is one with high drive and “working” ability.
It is likely not good to give the impression that a GSD cannot be first and foremost a pet.
It is likely not good to refuse to acknowledge that for many owners a major part of satisfaction from pet ownership is the appearance and movement of a companion animal.

Those other breeders could offer me a contract all day long, but if they are breeding the stock I see on some of the sites it's basically worthless anyway.
When I have people contact me about purchasing a puppy (we do training here), regardless of the breed, I offer to help weed through their choices if they'd like. I at least like to point out obvious things to avoid. I always send them this article as I think it will help the novice buyer understand a bit better where to start looking. I'm not sure I agree with absolutely everything the author says, there may be some phrasing that will confuse novices, but overall I think it is a great start.

That "ruffly speaking" site is a little gem, thank you so much for calling attention to it. I don't think the phrasing is too
confusing; I can think of a number of people who ought to have read this before they started looking for a pup, not
just on which breeders to avoid but for the general advice it contains along the way.

ATTENTION ADMIN.....
Please note this dog http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=651840
is listed as OFA Good NOT TRUE

Willowvalley, any and all other false information listed should be removed.. There is a reason the OFA will not certify hips at 6-8 months old, a prelim is not OFA certification and should not be listed as such.... Sure does make you look BAD, trying to make your dogs out to be something they are not.
