"Anyone who doesn't prove their dogs' working abilities prior to breeding.

Dogs don't have to work today.

"Anyone who doesn't know what lines they're breeding.
"

Nothing wrong with outcrossing

Anyone who brags about breeding dogs as family pets, and nothing more.

Most dogs are pets.

Anyone who makes excuses or attempts to rationalize his/her breeding program.

by zdog on 03 July 2012 - 16:07

you can test your dogs without them having a "job"

You can know the lines and the history of the lineage and still outcross to a known lineage and know what was produced in the past.

my dogs are pets first and foremost.  They are my companions, but then a solid temperament coupled with drive and courage usually make awesome pets and familly dogs.  That goes without saying, no need to advertise that

Does one who is very opinioned make a good breeder?

In some circumstances he is not.

It is likely not good to give the impression that the only reasonable GSD is one with high drive and “working” ability.

It is likely not good to give the impression that a GSD cannot be first and foremost a pet.

It is likely not good to refuse to acknowledge that for many owners a major part of satisfaction from pet ownership is the appearance and movement of a companion animal.

I've never really cared about contracts(we started out getting all imports which never had a contract). As long as the breeder has health/titling information available for me to see I don't need a contract. I feel I am making an informed decision buying a pup from hip/elbow certified dogs that also have SchH titles and are Kkl. If that is done, then no piece of paper will change the outcome, the breeder has done the work and I am making an informed choice. There is always a risk regardless. The last 3 dogs we got all had the necessary requirements for us in that vein. The breeder did offer a contract, which was fine, but wouldn't have changed my mind on the purchase.
Those other breeders could offer me a contract all day long, but if they are breeding the stock I see on some of the sites it's basically worthless anyway.

When I have people contact me about purchasing a puppy (we do training here), regardless of the breed, I offer to help weed through their choices if they'd like. I at least like to point out obvious things to avoid. I always send them this article as I think it will help the novice buyer understand a bit better where to start looking. I'm not sure I agree with absolutely everything the author says, there may be some phrasing that will confuse novices, but overall I think it is a great start.

Don't believe in contracts or guarantees, prefer to operate similar to the way Europe does. Don't know what that makes me ....lol

That "ruffly speaking" site is a little gem,  thank you so much for calling attention to it.  I don't think the phrasing is too
confusing;  I can think of a number of people who ought to have read this before they started looking for a pup, not
just on which breeders to avoid but for the general advice it contains along the way.

I have removed my post, in effort to be as respectful as posible. Instead of sitting here and bashing others for lack of sharing the same opinion, I choose to put my time and effort into my dogs. For those that come across the misinformation posted, I'm happy to share documents I have in hand. For those that don't like what I have, it makes no difference. I'm happy to remove all info. that I may have posted and people can refer to me with any interest in updates or current information.

As I bite my tounge... All I will say is buyer beware very Aware...  Willowvalley,  glad to see you do not allow breeding of your pups,  they look to be of "pet"  quality at best...  Now maybe you should take your own advise and not breed dog that are subpar.

Hmmm I have just had it with the fraudulent misrepresentation of information on pedigrees posted on this site.....

ATTENTION ADMIN.....

Please note this dog http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=651840

AKC No.: DN23029001
Name: Priska Von Der Weide Haus
Sex: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Variety:
Color: Black
Markings:
Birth Date: 10/26/2008

There are no medical screens available for this dog.

Willowvalley,  any and all other false information listed should be removed..   There is a reason the OFA will not certify hips at 6-8 months old, a prelim is not OFA certification and should not be listed as such.... Sure does make you look BAD, trying to make your dogs out to be something they are not.
