For anyone who may refer to my comment about "they were showlines"....I just think they needed a variation.....that's all. More than just one "type" so to speak.

Supertanker

True story...

I had an untrained female Rottweiler who caught a would be burglar in the backyard.
Nothing special about her breeding just a backyard breed from around the way.
She basically tore almost every shred of clothes off the man.
She was in such a frenzy when the police arrived they just stood there and watched while she took a bite outta crime.
I let her chew on him until I got tired.
I finally called her off and took her in the house.
The police jumped the 6 foot fence and apprehended the suspect.
Later they called me to identify the suspect.
Amazing they ask me if I could ID the suspect.
I say yea, the half naked, bleeding guy with dog bites all over his body...

My dog's name was "Evil".  That was her name, but she was perhaps the sweetest dog I've owned...
I would go to war with Evil any day, any where, any time...

That's not fair. Rotts train themselves. They do what they want, when they want.

mentayflor,
The answer is actually a question,

Would you protect a member of your immediate family?

What about a friend?

And then there is the stranger, would you protect a stranger?

That's your answer.

Moons.

Moons, are you saying any dog will protect if they are family and friend?

Two Moons

by Two Moons on 01 May 2012 - 03:05

This has been discussed before,
I've seen mutts do it.

Not all dogs would, but some would surprise you.

I've seen trained dogs turn and run.

Lets just say It depends.

As for the question,
will an untrained dog protect it's owner, I must say yes.

Will someone win the lotto? I understand what you're saying, but I don't want some of the people on here thinking that a Golden will do such if loved. It is called genetics, and sad to say, most people on here own pretty mediocre dogs that would look just like the ones in the first video. Nothing against them or their dogs. Will every human run into a building on fire if they're not firemen? Some will, some will cry and others will record it on their phone.

All things considered,
the answer to the question as asked is still yes.

I didn't watch the video, I seldom do.
I just know what I've seen myself.

Would you run into a burning house to save your own child, or would you say I wanted too but didn't.
People die this way everyday, ordinary people, don't sell a dog short just because they're a dog.

It's called love Chaz.
Perhaps it is rare, but it happens, and it has nothing to do with breed or genetics when it happens.

You do make a valid point but then again there is always the exception to any rule.

LOL.......

I had a bitch once who adopted a stray kitten, she had no problem protecting it from anything that posed a threat.

Say your dog loves your car?

LOL........
