I still haven't quite figured out the board, so I don't know how to search for specific threads. (Otherwise I would do that).

Definitely wouldn't breed the dog - I just want a working liver. I've seen a few breeders who breed for dilutes, and only one of everyone I've found does any kind of health testing or has dogs that pursue show careers. (Not SchH, though, so those dogs would be basically useless for what I want).

I have a question for you guys.
Why so much hate toward the dilutes? Is it because most all of the breeders that produce them intentionally have next to zero ethics? Is it because the dogs they produce are nothing but pets and aren't 'real' GSDs that can work? Poor health, due to the lack of testing by said breeders? Or is it the dogs themselves for being a disqualifying color?

Konotashi, YOU participated in the thread Yellow Rose linked to, so you should KNOW why many people on this board dislike livers and other off-coloured GSDs!

Your post is on this page: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/forum.read?mnr=41609  Read the thread, and I'm sure you'll figure out the answer to your questions.

I understand disliking the breeders and what they're striving for, but it comes across as people hate the dogs themselves.

I guess some breeders DO hate the dogs, because they show their valuable breeding stock is 'tainted' with some unwanted genes. Many of these pups are quietly culled, and kept a big, dark secret by the breeder.

The breeders that really welcome these dogs tend to be the unethical ones who care nothing for the breed standard or health testing, and only want to make money off these supposedly 'rare' coat coulors!

I agree with Hexe on this....
I've seen 1 liver, sable, long coated dog in my lifetime. (in person). He was absolutely stunning looking.
He was owned by a retired police officer, and was his home companion.

I have seen a couple of Panda colors (over 15 years ago)...and a couple of blues over the past years......and none of those breeders *bred* for the undesired color pattern.
I don't think there is anything wrong with a person who specifically wants a "particular" color of dog for their own. There are breeding's that occasionally produce dogs of dilute colors, and albeit the breeders may not *shout to the world* that these puppies have been whelped......there is no reason, that they (the puppies) should be omitted from finding loving, responsible homes.
There is a huge difference in breeding for dilutes...and having a litter that produced a dilute.

Dilutes happen...it's a genetic component within this breed.
@Kono....if I hear of any, I will pm you....I will also ask a friend in Germany, I'm sure IF there is one born there.....they would be thrilled to have the possibility of someone interested.

I believe a lot of people have seen them and thought they were another breed like a Husky or a CHOW mix and didnt know they were liver GSD>

There are a lot of them in TEXAS..

Mahon posted his pics and he had three of them and I know of three others...

And according to the thread on here linked, there are many of them all across the usa  BUt LIKE WAS STATED...
most breeders hide it and do not shout it to the news or even post it in classified..

It is a Secret...

but White never has been a secret,  as I have to control my mouth when I use to advertise a litter and get phone calls asking me   :"DO YOU HAVE ANY WHITE PUPS for sale..?"   I made a lot of people mad who did not know me...

I just explained some facts to them

They never got it when I told them I breed to German Standards and I do not breed for the Populairity market I breed working line import shepherd lines.???huH??

They hang up on that note.

That, is why we oppose the notion of Liver, blue or white..or Merle or Brindle or any other combination because it is know what lines do produce so you have to research and try to combine lines that produce good strong pure colors...BUT no fault of any breeder if one happens to be born but I do not think it is right to not tell a buyer , these lines do contain liver or blue or lc genes..

   search messageboard

then type in the blank what you want to search for

like      liver and blue gsd
or       Raw meat diet

or        Table training

and the search will give you either nothing and you reword your look for..using different words or

below on this page will be all the thread found using your words in the search bar. You can then click on them and read the whole thread about what you are looking for...and probably a lot more you  may not want to read...lol

I was surprised last year with a liver pup in my litter..   He is now a year old and really quite handsome.  He is in a ringsport home and a family dog ..  doing super..     It is not something I was trying to produce..  he just appeared that way.. and believe me ..when it happens..  it is quite a shock!   He is an excellent dog tho..  super temperment, and my friend says he is doing really nice work.
The mother of the litter is Meika vom Sitz von der Hose    and dad is Nathan vom Fegelhof.   This picture is when he was about 4 months old.
