we have a lot of fishers here they are scared of my dog she hates them but will kill cats and small dogs like rat terriers or poodles jack russels etc.. they are about the size of a fox people say they were introduced to control porcupine populations when their numbers went out of control they tried to introduce cougars some rumor that has been going around a long time.

Ronin: In comparison the fisher "cat" is similar to the European polecat. A North American omnivore. Has a reputation for winning, favorite prey are snowshoe hares and the porcupines, and no one else eats porcupines! Populations are rebounding from being listed as endangered, where old growth forests are allowed to stand.

Karelian_Bear_Dogs are successfully employed by state of Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife for that purpose.

if a bear wanted to press its attack no dog is going to stand in its way

there is a husky mutt that attacked a woman here in a park her dog saved her but again if the bear was dead serious on killing the bear could have killed her and the dog bears usually will back off though most of the time.

there are even cats being bred for it

Fishers are very aggressive ! Here in Michigans Upper Peninsula the fishers are colored with a very dark black sable look .... they sort of move like an otter ........... as indicated by the other post they are the only predator to prey on porcupines. They are able to flip the porky over and onto his back with out getting stuck with a quil. They are still plentiful here although took a bit of a decline 3yrs ago due to a bout with parvo-virus. They are bouncing back without the tail a large male can be nearly 3 ft long without the tail .... they are quite vicious. Last week deer hunting I happen to see one from 50 ft bouncing around .... I was hoping he would not come into my deer blind cause I would of exited and got the hell out of there ..... lol !   Regards ... Greg
