MY FEMALE JUST WHELPED 5 PUPPIES(ONE STILLBORN) SATURDAY. MOMMY AND BABIES ARE DOING FINE SO FAR. HOWEVER NOVA IS STILL PANTING QUITE A BIT. SHE EATS PRETTY GOOD AND GOES OUT TO POTTY, THEN SHE COMES RIGHT BACK TO HER BABIES.MY QUESTION IS THE PANTING NORMAL AFTER DELIVERY? I THOUGHT MAYBE SHE WAS RATHER HOT SINCE THE WEATHER IS VERY WARM HERE IN OHIO. WHAT DO YOU THINK? THANKS  JO ANN

I have a female, she whelped 6/6/11 3 days early ~~~ she did not have a temp drop (nor did she prior to her her last 2 whelpings) not only that but she never refused food even 30 mins prior to whelping.
Just letting you know that they don't always follow the rules.

Good wishes for a trouble free whelping.

yes that is true not all go off feed , i know mine do not , plus mine dont really dig much and you need to check temp a few times aday to catch the drop as it does not  stay down long, with my dogs it needs to go into the 98 area to be a good whelping drop.  and then within 12 hours is when mine whelp, anywhere from 58 days to 70 days is normal and i would not worry , untill its been 65 days from last breeding date before i would contract your vet, which they more than likely will have to do a C-Section. i also have a female due in 10 days too...   good luck...

Only just checked in again so I presume by now all is OK, but in reply to lovejags, yes I often notice that my females pant for a while after giving birth, often makes me think maybe there is anther one... but I think its normal, and maybe they are a bit warm due to the heat lamp, though obviously not excessively....

any news zobelhund??

Thanks everyone for the easy whelping wishes!
The puppies came last night. She had 4 healthy fat babies! :)
Two males and two females. 2 sables (females) and 2 black/tan (males)
All puppies came out normal positions and no complications. Thank god!
My one male (first out) did drop 2 ounces over night. I am making sure to keep a good eye on him and making him nurse ever chance I get.
Thank you all!

its normal for them to lose weight after birth then they should gain it right back. but it is a good idea to keep a close eye on him]
