Are there any other applications for this "bark command"?
Anyone have ideas?

well, i don't have "speak" or "bark" command...however i do have "check it out" command....when i hear something at night and i cant see what it is, or i can hear voices but don't see people in front yard because of greenery, and I know for a fact that at 2 am no one should be that close to my house ...I tell my dogs "check it out" they will start barking like they are running for an attack and they will run the perimeter of my property/electric fence line barking and growling...till they come in full circle. I find that very useful because i can tell where they are at, and if they do come across something i know exactly where they are and can come to see what they have cornered or keeping out of yard. with woods in the back yard and retarded white trash as a neighbor i find this VERY useful.

I had a yellow lab years ago that I taught to bark on command using hand signals, just because my ex said it couldn't be done.

As my Dogs live outside they can do what they need to without commands and as for anyone around the house who should not be they soon let me know

Wish I could teach my Titus to shut up! Go near a toy and thats all he does. Really doesn't bother me much, but it can be annoying when I've had a long day. I have started teaching him to quit barking when playing, but progress is slow. Good Luck

Well, If you teach your dog to bark on command, then give another command to 'Quiet', you should soon have a dog that shuts up on command!
I have trained my Kali to 'speak' as well as 'What's out there?'...sort of like 'watch'...she will go to the windows & doors to look out, if someone's there, she barks! Work great on salesmen & missionaries! If no-one's there, she comes back & sits down in front of me, like, what's next? She's a very smart girl, she understands so much that we say. If I ask 'are you thirsty?', she runs to the kitchen & puts one paw up on the sink & barks. When I was trimming her tail my husband told her I would cut off her tail, the meany; & she looked around at me balefully & tucked her tail under, like she believed him! I had to reassure her I would only trim a little hair, then she turned around & lifted her tail for me like a good one. She knows grooming commands, like turn around, stand, lift your foot, tail, etc., she knows roll over, she'll open her mouth for tooth brushing on command....when I say 'time to cut your nails', she'll lay down on her back & give me each paw in turn...she has a huge vocabulary of human words that she seems to comprehend.
I will say the 'speak' command was one of the trickiest to teach, but once she got that one, it was like it turned the key for her, she learned a lot of other stuff very quickly. jackie harris
