The product that I have used for years has been a product called 'Freedom 45 Spot On Fly Control' which was developed for equine. It comes in a liquid form in small tubes. The way that I apply it, is that I put on a pair of rubber gloves, I then make a little "cup" in the palm of my hand and put just a few drops, about the size of a dime, in my palm, I then put the tube down and rub my gloved hands together, I then rub my dogs top of his head and ears and around his neck in a massaging matter deep into his coat.. I then repeat the process, and rub it throughout his coat all over his body . This stuff will last for days if not 2-3 weeks. This product has done well for me over the years.

I also use Swat... it seemed the flies only wanted a few of my dogs but they tore them apart. I put swat on the tips of their ears and the flies literally fly away from the smell. The container says it kills the flies on contact. Serves them right!

Swat, and automatic area sprayers in the kennel building.
I never had any luck with Skin So Soft on dogs or horses, but it does smell nice, makes MY skin pretty soft and shiny in summer. Not as expensive as Oil of Olay Sesame Body Oil, which I also love.

Even the damn Swat is not working for 24 hrs per application here. All this heat has the flies in big numbers right now. I'd like to try that Freedom 45 but I don't have the $ to.

We had a problem with flys biting the ears, we tried advantix. It worked great, I actually use it on the horse (takes two or three) It is for fleas, biting flies,mosquitos and ticks. I hate the chemicals but I also hate the animals being tortured....

SWAT - works great, I like the clear stuff but if you use the bright neon pink stuff you can see pretty clearly if it's worn off or not - usually lasts a few days to a week.

I have the pepto pink Swat. I'm now waiting until I see flies (about 8am) then applying. It's worn off at the end of the day but the flies are letting up. I have to reaply every day. I even had fly bait out early this spring thinking I had them under control! NEVER seen the flies so bad before. Must be the heat. 108 here today, 105 yesterday.

I have been using Duraguard. It has been working wonderfully. I get 2 weeks out of an application but don't seem to have as many flies as the rest of the people on here. Maybe they don't come around because of the duraguard? I saturate a small piece of sponge and apply it that way - I don't like the sprays being inhaled.

I have never seen it like this in all my years in NJ very bad. I am used to flies around horses so normally they are worse than with the dogs atleast for me. So a few dont offend me too much but when they are eatting the flesh off our animals not good!

Our poor old man was out for 4 hours yesterday there was a breeze and his ears are all eaten up :(

First time with the dogs used to it from the horses and if only I could get the dogs to wear the fly masks it would be good.

Just dont see that happening. Will use swat but now they need to heal up all scabby today. They were ok when we were burning all of our tikki torches and the dogs were in their pool....of course we were out there with them. Cant leave our young ones out unattended with tikki torches we would have more problems then flies!

We dont have a lot of property and it is insane....the number of flies and they are vicous!
Guess the rain did us in.

At the top of this thread is an advertisement for "Fly Preditor". I have read all the testimonials and how to use it. It's an organic type of control. Has anyone used it. Does any one have any comments?? It sounds VERY INTERESTING. ecs
