Jyl, don't they carry AvoDerm at Tractor Supply? I haven't really taken a look at the ingredients on it so I'll look it up as well. None of my dogs have ever really done well on anything that was Chicken based though.  I'll check it out on their website here in a minute to see what else they have. I looked up Solid Gold on Petcos website to see the ingredient list.  VERY low protein compared to what I would have expected on the ones with Bison.

I looked up the AvoDerm.  The ingredients look decent, but only 20% protein on the lamb?  23% on the Chicken

The regular lamb formula from AvoDerm is lower protein and fat.... but the Oven Baked lamb is high calerie. Xena is doing really well on the chicken. She does better on chicken. My male is still eating the TOTW lamb. They do sell the AvoDerm at TSC now. I saw it there about a month ago when I went shopping. I get my AvoDerm at a Pet Club where I live. The price is really good. I pay $29.99 for 30 pounds..

Another food to look at is Premium Edge. Not sure if they sell it at any pets stores or feed stores near you. I know they do not sell it at the TSC where I live. The Premium Edge is a really good food.
Here is the ingredience for the lamb...

To all concerned ; I used to be a big advocate of Timberwolf Organics dog food until I did some research on the  ingredients on a random dry food that is produced by them and what one of the items was...Potassium chloride is given at a lethal dose in order to interrupt the electrical signaling essential to heart functions. This induces cardiac arrest.
NEVER AGAIN will I ever feed my dogs or reccomend this sh&^# to anyone !!!!!!!!

Lakewood....seriously?

I suppose you are anti-iron then, since iron is one of the leading causes of accidental poisonings in children. How many essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals can have negative effects if given in toxic amounts? I could go on and on. That's absolutely asinine reasoning. It's a metal halide salt. The body needs it. Dosage determines what is good for you and what is lethal.

I was just going to shake my head and ignore this, but too many people read this forum to not say something. I am sorry to come across so rude, but honestly, too many people read this to let balantly false and bizarre posts on important topics stand unchallenged. Please, if you don't know w/100% certainty precisely what you're talking about, please don't comment on nutrition threads.

As an aside, I used to distribute for Timberwolf and dogs looked fantastic on it. I got sick of people calling me at 11pm. to tell me they needed to come over right now and get dog food, so I quit, but the food was excellent.

Acana Grasslands is the absolute best kibble dog food I have found to date. It works extremely well with all of my dogs, young and old. Any of them that have ever had any digestive issues this food has cleared up those problems. My dogs have excellent coats and tremendous energy on this food.
It is grain-free.

JENN : I WILL TALK ABOUT WHATEVER I DAMN WELL CHOOSE. WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME WHAT I CAN AND SAY ???  Please, if you don't know w/100% certainty precisely what you're talking about, please don't comment on nutrition threads.
"I" choose to let others know what I find. It is entirely up to THEM what to feed their animals. PERSONALLY , I feed
pedigree small chunks and pedigree wet mix together with salmon oil (1-tsp) per bowl......
You need to check your attitude !!!!

I don't know what all this potassium chloride business is about...
I stopped feeding Timberwolf after my collie started drinking water very excessively...I attributed it to their addition of salt to the food.

by LynOD on 20 September 2011 - 15:09

I feed mostly raw, but occaisionally supplement with kibble,  I use Wellness ocean formula grain free and orijen the red meat one.  The protein in the orijen is too high for my male shepherd but border collie does fine on it. All my dogs have done well on wellness.
