If you decide you don't want to keep this gorgeous little girl drop me a line, I would take her in a second.

Let me just share something about first impressions. When I first got into the breed I really didn't like sable color GSD's, I'd go so far as to say I thought they were ugly. Two years ago I met a Sable dog, he was a former police dog that lost his job due to funding. The officer sold him to an aquaintance, which was the kennel where I met him. He was dreadfully skinny, but he had an awsome personality. We bonded the moment I met him. I began working with him, put some weight on him and when I saw him work on the SchH field I just HAD to have him. Long story short I convinced my hubbby to let me keep him...actually Andy did that all on his own:) Today I LOVE sables, having Andy has completely changed my views including my feelings about working lines. Lesson learned - Don't judge a book by its cover! My next GSD will likely be another sable. Give your little girl a chance, who know's if she becomes your Agility/SchH/OB/flyball star or just best buddy you may just look for another petite GSD the next time around.

Haven't decided what I am going to do with her yet, but in the meantime, nobody has to worry. I am treating her like a member of the family, just like the male. And I don't really think she is a miniature shepherd, just quite a bit smaller than what I am used to. Humor is tough on the internet.

I tried measuring her again. Best I can tell she's slightly under 22 inches. I got one measurement of 21.5" and another of 21.75". Maybe on a good day she would make the standard.

I thought she was just a year old. Doesn't she have some growing to do yet?

by triodegirl on 07 July 2006 - 12:07

I'm guessing she might still grow a little. My whole point of complaining was that the seller misrepresented her. The first thing I told hin was that I was looking for a large female. I have nothing against smaller shepherds, I was just looking for one that was on the larger end of the scale. Sort of like preferring a certain color. Everybody here missed the point of my original post. The seller should have been honest in describing her size. You may not be able to predict how a dog is going to act in a new environment, but you can be pretty sure they will not double in size shipping them from Arizona to Wisconsin. There's nothing wrong with the way she looks as far as coat or color, and I like her persoanlity as well. And it doesn't matter whether smaller dogs are better or bigger dogs are better. My whole point was that the seller lied and told me she weighed 65 lbs to make the sale. If you are selling a compact car, you shouldn't say it's a sedan.

is your male coated? I have a very small female 57lbs who has produced very large puppies. so just because your girl is small doesn't mean that she will not produce large pups. also I have found that they dont' have the joint issues as my big girls do. I like my small girls better than the large ones, but it is all an opionon. Het

Now see I would be measuring hoping she didn't hit 22 and I could run her in the 20 inch Agility Class. If she measures under 22 her jump height is permanently 20! (evil grin) Heck you could have her measured for her jump height card now if she is over 1 year of age as long as you don't request a challenge measurement later when she is 2 the first one will stand..... We are the complete opposites I would love to have another smaller but within standard bitch! I have a 2 year old now that was measured at 23.25 inches. She is 52lbs and VERY VERY Agile and FAST, running courses faster then Border Collies. I see your point if I asked for a dog on the smaller end of the standard for Agility and got a 27 inch at the withers male I would be a little upset. You gotta have the right tool for the job and 27 inches isn't going to cut it on an Agility Course. (wink)

Yes, my male is a longcoat. I was told the female was also a longcoat, but her coat looks more like a longer standard coat to me.

by Makosh on 08 July 2006 - 19:07

she is a long coat
