"We are in the process of having a meeting with the clubs that have signed the KC letter , to discuss the future development of the breed" These are the words contained in the KC Statement. Before you sign to the KC letter before the 31st I am led to understand you have not broken any rules and the penalty is only the loss of CC`s. Once you have signed this agreement am I to understand that you would then be breaking the rules if you decide to change your mind and want to run Events which are outside of the KC . In talking to some people it would appear that the signing would just be to cover a period of time to see how things go and then at a later date rescind the signing . Once signed and agreed, and I take it this means going to the meeting to talk about the future of our breed and to follow the way in which we all know the KC wants to take us, would I be right in saying that by opting out at a later date you would be breaking an agreement and you could be treated differently than those who did not sign in the first place??? Or do you just wait for the signing next year. The worry for me is, the way in which the KC is publicly  advertising the fact that those who have signed have agreed with all their request and will abide by the KC demands in relation to every aspect of our Breed. Please read carefully their chosen words in their statement.

Nugget, of course, they will do as much damage as possible... such is their love of dogs!  I do think it's a great pity, that our BC has not been at the forefront, "fighting" our case.  This is not the time to be working in the background.

It will take time for the public to see the real truth, but we'll get there, helped by the lack of interest the KC shows in breeds with REAL problems... plans are afoot.

I think every Club who's signed, should have a serious re-think... it's not too late to change your mind... for our breed.

Nugget, am I right in thinking that you're main interest is in the working side?  If so, please start thinking about Sch and what the KC may have up their silly sleeve, (they're teaching their dogs to bite people ) this may well be another ploy in the making.  It would do no harm to be prepared.

Hi everyone, I am a pet owner so could be considered as Joe Public and though I agree that the publicity being generated by the KC at this time is likely to have a big impact on the general public who have no real interest in GSD's I cant help but feel there is a point that is being missed.

I know that most if not all of you breed and show your dogs and that you might worry that when it comes time to breed a litter that you hope will produce a good prospect to keep you may have problems finding good homes for the pups that should go to pet homes. I cant help but wonder though if you have thought of the sort of people who would be more influenced by the KC spin rather than doing their own research on the breed and the health screening programs that you use. Are they the people that you would really want buying your pups?

I think too many people buy pups that they think are oh so cute and when they dont auto self train and start to grow up they get rid of them and get a new one. I personally know people who have done this many times ( not GSD pups). Too many dogs end up in rescues because the pup grows up and isn't what the buyer expected and they cant be bothered to actually put the effort in to correct behaviours they have created.

When I bought my pup it was with full knowledge that I would be dedicating the next 10-15 years of my life to that dog come what may. I spent a year thinking about getting a new dog, another year looking around and making sure that my lifestyle was compatible with a GSD before taking the step of contacting a breeder. My pup is now 10 months old and being a teenager I have been expecting this and was prepared for it but too many people who buy big dogs dont and dont know how to handle it, just take a look at the GSD rescue sites.

Perhaps I am being naive but it seems to me that the sort of person who is prepared to own a breed with as much character as the GSD has will have put the effort in and found out for themselves the importance of health screening, and the correct standard for the GSD and these are the people that will still come to people like yourselves for the correct GSD. The rest shouldn't own any dog in my opinion.

I know what you're trying to say, but many (most?) breeders are pretty clued up on prospective buyers.  I don't think you can blame Joe Public for thinking that the KC has got it right, after all it SHOULD be true!  Shame on them!

We'll all just have to do our bit to get the word out there... the internet will be a great help.

Quote by Max Von Stephanitz,

“The internationalism of The Big Bank Balance has been the downfall of the Shepherd Dog.”

Look at this link and tell me if the breed is still fit for purpose.

Oh I agree that the KC are doing a good job of painting themselves as the hero of the hour and that a lot of people perceive a KC reg as some sort of proof of quality which it isn't. I am also rather disgusted with the way the same KC that is in one breath saying it should be about health not looks then turns around and condems a breed because of its looks. I am also disturbed by the way that they are trying to push their AB scheme as some kind of guarantee of health when it isn't. That interveiw with Ms Kisko gave that impression to me anyway, I would have thought it was better for them to promote asking about health screening from the breeder rather than just assuming that any and all AB's have done it all.

I think Lagos was used, to tell us all off, for not behaving as they (KC) wish.

The ABS has no teeth; more than one wealthy puppy farmer can prove that point.  However, the KC don't want teeth... they want money and they want to be able to blame someone else... whatever!
