Multiple Toms, multiple Grims, multiple Markos, and so on, all from the same breeding program.  You'd think they ran out of good Czech names, like Jiri (can't even name one), and if so, they could try Swedish ones, like Hans.  Otherwise, it's pretty much Greek to anyone.

Hans, double check the picture of Klara z PS you posted above, I think you have the wrong dog, the one you have a picture of is at (was at?) Witmer-Tyson in California is ZVV1, and had a litter sired by Calimero von MaKeRa on August 19, 2007 : http://www.witmertyson.com/dogs/show/Klara%20z%20Pohranicni%20straze Maybe that is the Klara you're talking about though.

Aren't there more than two Toms? Cordon son, a Grim son, and the other one listed on the database that's a Bont Pec-Car son.

There was 3 Tom's to my knowledge, 1) Tom born in 1984, 2) Tom born in 1994, 3) Tom born in 1997. There are at least 5 Klara z Pohranicni strare's, I have seen 2 of them. One born in 1994 the other born in 1998. There is at least 7 Cita z Pohranicni straze's so it is hard for people to keep them straight. 4 Agar's, there is just about multiple name  for each letter.

What an informative topic. Thanks to all the people sharing the knowledge.

Hans ~ I'd like your opinion on this dog Hoky Va-Pe ?

I'm searching for my competition puppy and very invested in my search. I found a litter that I liked and sired by this dog. I looked up his pedigree and saw a lot of line breeding. I know this may not necessarily be bad but... of course as someone who's "pedigree-deciphering" skills are limited, I can not make a judgment.

I appreciate the input.

By the way, I'd like to come pay you a visit one day when I'm in AZ. I lived there for 4 years before moving to California.

interesting question killer K9 , can you tell me whats czech about hoky va pe , many czech breeders nowadays breed mostly westlines , it gets harder to find full czechline dogs in czech itsself

You're totally right, he was born in Slovakia!!  Ha ha.

If czech line dogs born in North Dakota aren't czech (according to Prager), then west german line dogs born in the czech republic MUST be czech!

Personally, I don't care where a dog comes from, or if it's "100%" DDR or czech or whatever.  There's little pockets of genepools all over the world, and no reason that I could tell why they should adhere to political boundaries.  If you wanna be the Walmart of czech dogs, ya gotta serve the whole smorgasboard.

daryll
,I disagree with prager  on that point
for me tom , grimm and gero  are czech dogs ,   ,,,,,, troll , ferro and mohnwiese are west
if you breed troll/mohnwiese lines in czech they will remain westlines
I breed with czech lines in holland , my dogs are not czech dogs but they are czech lines

these seperate pockets of genepools are of great importance , as they have various qualities you might need one day
because political pressure , breeding for pointsdogs and some other reasons , a lot of the westlines/dogs are getting too "flat" in caracter/temperament

now if you dont have anything too get back to ,to pick up some qualities you lost , what will you do ,

now if the people in countries that were seperated from the main pool , start to breed everything to the mainstream names

you will have the same genes everywhere

I agree with you of the importance of maintaining non-intermingled bloodlines, in order to fall back to when something is required.  I think most times the westlines are sought by the czech to improve only prey drive, perhaps in some cases to gain more "biddability".  But, if that's the route that's taken, it's important that they utilize the RIGHT westline dog to compliment their lines, so that the resulting progeny don't overly detract from their better known "czech" qualities, to prevent them from becoming "sleevesuckers" or too soft.
