What is the difference between z y vom von etc. in kennel names?

Working on a kennel name . . .

Not sure anyone but German speakers can fully understand the difference between Von and Vom - if I remember rightly, off the top of my head without looking it up, it's something to do with tense and gender (language gender, not human sex !). But that does not seem to trouble most of the non-German people who name their kennels to sound German, who use the two words interchangably. But why use a german-sounding kennel name anyway ? Its so obviously ersatz. You have the word 'German' in the name of your dogs already, if you breed GSDs; and it only seems to be in GSDs we find this proliference of, frankly, fake 'German' kennels. Same goes for 'Haus'.

Why not choose a word or subject that means something special to you, and build a kennel name and your future reputation on that, instead of trying to sound as though you come from/von/vom Germany ?

I took German about 60 yrears ago, but which word  is used depends on the gender of the next noun. This was discussed years ago, but the member gives a good explanation.

Z and ZE are that equivalent for CR / Slovakia kennels. Not sure of Y

newbiegsd - I don't think that is correct. Z is used for all kennel names except those starting with "S"
For example ze Stasi but z Ceboku - 

whoops    this is czech kennel.....  not slovak, but since once was one country, might still applie to Slovak.

'z' also gets used by some German kennels as an abreviation for 'zum'. An equivalent article as explained by Bob-O in that link Fantom posted above. (Like when 'v.' is used to give a short form of von / vom).
