Does people use puppy pens to keep there puppy until they are sold. I made some pens which are 3ft x 4ft so that the urine will drain away from the pups only to find out that now the pups cry when they sleep on mesh. mesh is 3/4inch as recommended by a breeder.

Please do not keep your puppies on mesh, How would you like to sleep on mesh? and only 3 x 4ft in size?

How old are they and how many puppies do you have? They need to feel the grass under their feet and have room to move around, to be able to romp and play. Give them room to move and they will be able to toilet at one end and play in the other.

I am sorry but only Puppy Mills keep their puppies in small pens with mesh under their feet, don't do this to your puppies.

My pups are born in my house. The pups I have now are in the bedroom. I have been pulling them into the living room, the mom keeps taking them back to the bedroom. My pups stay in my house, under foot until they go to their new homes. The are very well socialized with me, and the other dogs. They are treated as part of the family/pack .

Yeah, it's not always a picnic with them in the house, but there is no way in hell, i am putting them out to make it easier on me.(that's what rug shampooers are made for).

Once the weather is nice, my back door never gets closed. I have a huge fenced back yard, fenced especially for pups. They come in and out as they please. I have found this has worked very well to get them started house breaking for their new homes also. They did not ask to be here, so it's on me to make them as happy and clean as possible.

I realize this isn't the way alot of people rear their pups, it don't work for everyone. But it works for me, and better yet, it works for the pups!

Ouch!  Try walking barefoot on that mesh and you will have your answer.

Puppies raised on mesh wire have difficulty adapting to other surfaces. Like KitKat, my puppies are generally whelped in the house (but we have gradually replaced all carpet with tile or hardwood!). I have several portable pens that can attach together to make larger/smaller as needed. I can move them around in the yard; they meet other pets through the pen while they are very young, but still protected. Also, I can move them into more shade or more sun as the weather dictates. They get lots of exposure to a variety of environmental stimuli.   I set up another pen just inside the back door on tile floor; I find it easier to clean up with the portable pen instead of a crate. Sometimes I put a baby gate across one door in the mudroom, which gives them a larger area to romp and play.

There are many options, but please, NO wire mesh!
