I would like to think that a dog could do this............... just seems as if the dog itself would have to be extremely smart and almost able to reason?

Sure the dog could be trained to do that.  Seems to me nothing different than a watch dog title in Schutzhund.  The exception is that the dog is trained that the child/children is the object instead of a basket or purse or whatever.  I am sure there would be some additional training with the family however if such a dog is chosen.  The prices are rediculous!

It doesn't seem like that complicated of a training exercise to me?  I'm not sure what reasoning would be involved..   1) stay with kids,  and 2) bark at anyone that approaches them,  3) Continue barking until help arrives.

From the dog's perspective that seems pretty straight forward to me,  what's there to think about really?

It is still pretty cool,   and would show a dog's vigilence to the task at hand,  willingness to work unsupervised, safety around children, and more.   It just doesn't seem to demonstrate reasoning too much, the rules of the game are pretty straightforward, unless I missed something in the description?  Those prices are huge!!   Holy cow.

Only on the internet....lol

A fool and his money keep coming into mind.

You know I had a bitch once that wasn't even pure bred and my youngest son was a baby.   She wasn't well trained and had been given to me by a friend because she had gotten overly protective of their baby.  Seem's she wanted to eat the mailman and everyone else who wasn't family.    She took to my son immediately and stayed by him anytime he was out in the yard.

I believe she would have done anything to protect him, and all she required was a good loving home.  (free)

This is supposed to come natural to a real GSD.  The only training one should need is the out so the mailman can get back to his duties..lol

Save your money.

Cindy, I believe that dog can be trained to do this, especially GSD. I did notice that kind of acting in my almost completely untrained female. She dose not just act like that when kids are playing, but she acts the same way with my 8 weeks old puppy. I believe that there are dogs out there that it’s in their nature; those are the ones that make great mothers, and family companion.

I am still believer that no child should be left unsupervised with kids. There is no such a thing like save dog around children’s things go wrong from time to time.

Recently I and my GF were at my friend’s house, they didn't allow her inside the house but they did allow her to stay in their fenced backyard. When we were being entertained inside, my friends neighbor decided to join us, as many times before he came through the back yard, it was dark, she emerged from around the corner and waited for him to lack the gate once he made few steps towards the house she confronted him she barked and approached him growling and barking, he was ex police dog handler, he decided that it wasn't smart to back track or move he waited she kept guarding him and burking till (half an hour later) my gf heard her and came outside he was standing there in the same place for that long and she refused to let him made a single step till relised by my gf. He said it him self that he never seen completely untrained dog doing something like that. At no time she shows any kind of uncontrolled aggression towards him, but she did show him very clearly that he is not to move.

Some dogs can be great protectors and great companions at the same time. It's not what all dogs can do, same like not all dogs can be top psa or sch competitors. There is a dog for ever job. The statement which, that company is making should be taken with grain of salt. Dogs will be dogs, as long as we are able to understand that we will always get what we bargain for.

My gf is currently working her as she wants to make sure that the dog is in total control at all times.

just to clarify................. I am NOT interested in getting one of these dogs, I am new here and have been doing TONS of research on GSD,  I just happened across this website and found it interesting and wanted to know a bit more. and also to know peoples opinions on it, thanks for answering

The reasoning I was talking about was on the dog that is the "next level" up from the barkiing at anyone approaching the child.....................

Crap, Crap, and more Crap.....

Love the $85,000 dollar Malinios that bites the crotch "strategically"

The thing is there are people with so much money they don't know what to do with that will buy these dogs.

I have worked with people who trained their dogs this way.  They were trained only to attack if you laid a hand on the owner/trainer. You could get in their face and yell but the second your reached for them the dog would bite you on the arm or leg.
