I just read an ad for a nice V-rated SchH3 KKL1A Quando Sofienwald son in Germany for sale "or on deckstation".
What does this "on deckstation" mean? I've never heard of such. Would appreciate if someone could explain. Just sounds curious.

I think it is like "on loan for studdings".  Not too sure though.

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/classifieds/60611.html Is the Ad. Nice impressive show male-no concerns or questions about the ad-just wondering what it means.

You could be right on that, Vickie; I wondered but wasn't going to assume.

I think it means he's available for stud.

Sometimes Babelfish doesn't get it quite right. I'm thinking that was lost in translation. jh

That's ok; I had never heard of it so I was just curious what it meant when I saw the ad run at the top here above the messageboard and the "on deckstation" just caught my eye.  Thanks all!

Deckstation means that the dog will remain in the name of his original owner! But another person will keep him and take care of him while studding him out. The earnings are usually split between the owner and the keeper (guardian) after deducting expenses like food and vet fees.

It is common practice in Europe. Sometimes, males go "on loan" for a while from Germany to a Skandinavian country. But it does not really work well here in the U.S., plus it is a big responsibility. Years ago (8 or 9 I believe), I had a Wienerau male on "Deckstation". In the four months he was with me, he only had three breedings, one with my female and two with Megan Judge's. It is not worth the effort, even when the male in question is a German VA male. If I recall correctly, VA-Ajax vom Haller Osning was in California on "Deckstation" for a while. He too, did not get the amount of breedings warranted for such a quality dog. U.S. breeders are a bit different than the European ones.

Yes, I'd be very afraid to have someone else's expensive dog here-lots can accidentally happen and that would scare me to death. This dog I've mentioned is 1/2 bro to VA1 Bazi Urbecke and looks like a nice enough male.
How much did it run you up front to have a dog on deckstation like that, Chris, if you don't mind to tell? Just curious; I've got plenty of GSDs as is, but I can't help but wonder how much you'd be out of pocket to even consider doing such. I understand you said you split the cost for breedings, etc, but are there any up front fees involved that you have to pay? Who paid to ship the dog to you-yourself or the breeder?
