For example:  The dog "LADY" is in this pedigree TWICE.  She is the GRANDMOTHER and also the GREAT-GRANDMOTHER.

The generations are numbered with the number of generations back.

The dog whose pedigree this would be is said to be linebred on Lady with the ratio of 2:3.  (She appears in the 2nd generation and the 3rd).

They say that the purpose of linebreeding brings out your strengths of the dog/lines you are linebreeding on, but it can also bring out the weaknesses.  Though there are risks of producing faults/weaknesses - even if the dogs are not related.

If you have a particular trait you would like to "stabilise" in your breeding program, they say linebreeding is a good tool for this.

Linebreeding MAGNIFIES whatever lies in the lineage of the dog. It doesn't create problems that are not already underlying.
