Member, Dingodog is right. The reason why ther eis so much debate and fuss about the GSD currently, is their topline, and how breed standards, from different clubs and poeple have changed it, and what it should be considered like?

'The current problems we have in the breed are Size and Hind angulation'.

Member, nothing about nerve, courage and working ability? Are they not major problems based on last weekend’s performance?

To go back to the UK situation, Brian Wootton wrote a good article for the breed magazine last month, I thought it was reasonable and well balanced. It is always worthy to remove oneself from an insular view of the breed and stand back, look at it removed, both emotionally and mentally. It’s a shame more people don’t do that, it may help them to understand other’s perspective.

The public see humped back excessive sloping toplines, they see tilted pelvis’, they see ski slope croups, loose hindquarters and exaggerations. This is what some people see, some even go so far as to say major front end and major rear end issues, others can’t watch, they see deformities. Some are old enough to remember the proud, majestic, sturdy, confident outline of the German dog of the 60’s 70’s with a temperament to match. That’s not to say everything was perfect back then.

It is all over the net, a conversation amongst dog people especially when anyone owns a shepherd, it’s the first thing you hear, ‘yours are not as bad as some other’s I see‘. I daresay if they were they would say nothing to my face and say it when I’m out of earshot. My dogs are old now, one died last year. It is and was very much a subject of controversy long before Meyer’s size and hind angulation speeches.  I daresay you have probably heard all this before…

Apologies for high jacking your thread, Hamza
