Rik,

Someone that recently got a pup from me said they were in touch with the New Skete people, and that they seemed a bit more comercialized and bigger than they used to be.......sometimes big is not always better......I guess they are very much into training dogs of all breeds, the did have a TV show, "Divine Canine" At first I enjoyed their show very much,  it was all about, we take your dog, train it for a month or so, then when you pick up your dog, we train you......Some people are just plain lazy, people should train their dog themselves, spend the time with the dog or don't bother owning a dog.....

RoZoAn,

This took me by surprise so I went back to see where it comes from and edited my post. I do not know German S/L pedigrees and did not mean to give the impression that I do.

July and I have had very harsh disagreements in the past and I don't wish for this to start up again so I defer to her knowlwdge of these things.

I do feel however that I have a little knowledge of the Am. S/L and that also I recognize anatomy. Since this is a thread concerning Am. lines, I offered a few comments from my experience.

I simply point to Danny as an excellent example of  Show Line GSD anatomy (bred in the U.S.) as compared to the Am. S/L posted earlier.

When I read what you accuse me of, I am very uncomfortable. I have seen this dog and think he is spectcular, I also saw his sire go VA1 at the NASS.

Mirasmom, The dog you posted that went back to Bernd and Hein was a very nice dog in my opinion. This is the type of dig that America used to create when they were producing the total German Shepherd. See, I am not anti American GS because yhey are American, I remember when we bred dogs like this that could do UDT work and there were American dogs that routinely acquired UD, or TDX degrees. Wish there were more dogs like you pictured bred from this side of the world and able to be recognized by the Showring.

 RoZoan,

I will try to explain what I meant..

Altought I find Danny to be a very nice looking dog, I went to look at his pedigree and simply didn't like what I saw.  Title side is very good, his father is VA1 and he has a couple of VA in his pedigree but titles are not everything.  If you look at the dogs..a lot of them are roach and have poor angulation (rear and front)..they have nice colours and nice head but less than idea stucture.(and this is my opinion).  Also go see his siblings...i'm sure I don't even have to comment about them..you will see by yourself! I have to say that the positive side of this pedigree is that everyone is HIP certified..

You have to remember that unfortunatly titles can be bought (politics).  I'm more into american lines and even thought a dog get a GV title..doesn't mean I like it! I went to a lot of nationals and sometimes prefer the Select 8 over the GV.

Pedigree is not everything but for me it is very important because the dog passes his genes..the one he aquired from his Sir and Dam but also Grand sir and so on..A dog cannot give what he doesn't have..same things with working line. That was the point I was trying to make..Oh and also..he is linebred on Ursus but far in the pedigree (4-3).  So this mean that there are no type that has been fixed with his breeding (almost outcross) His chance of passing his beautiful traits are more limited.

How come this particular dog comes out so gorgeous when the rest is so so? well time will tell...maybe he got something the others didn't get..let's hope he gives his beautiful stucture to his progenies because he is a very good representative of the breed..JMHO

Best

I wanted to add that I'm not an expert on german line either..And sometimes I wonder why those dogs gets so high ranking when there is so many dogs being showed..I can't beleive that over more than a 1000 dogs..they can't find better ones!!

You see one once in a while that takes your breath away (like Danny) but it is rare (at least for me!).  When I see those VA dogs and look at the standard..I wonder how those judge interpret it..:))
