Abby Normal

by Abby Normal on 27 August 2012 - 17:08

I would say it began with that Blitzen, but it evolved as far as I can see.  As a result and subsequently, Jantie became deeply concerned about the politics and corruption within the SV and the big breeders/judges that control it., and was determined to expose it. About this aspect of his activities I cannot say that he is wrong, and for the most part he does seem to be right, but mostly people that adopt SV rules, and support the SV don't care for the criicism and yes, I think Aqua's assessment is right - anything that Jantie says is dismissed and he is attacked, by certain people in particular.

If Jantie posts you can see who comes out for the attack. You won't see them posting here most of the time. They are not the ones that are concerned with the original incident, more with Jantie's opinions about the SV and corruption. It is political usually IMO.

Jantie was removed for breaking our TOS by copying posts from here and posting them on his blog. That is against our terms of service, he was asked to remove them and he did not. mrdarcy (admin)

I didn't know Jantie didn't post here anymore. Abby, I'm not sure what got him interested in the SV politics and, if they are at all like the AKC,  I can believe that there is a lot of corruption that is in need of being revealed.

I stopped trying to be polite to Jantie after he opted to put down that poor dog and then treated 3 or 4 of us here like we were subhuman simply because we begged him on bended knees to please allow us to pay to have the dog shipped to the USA, given a forever home and any medical attention he needed. He refused and opted for euthanasia and, yes, it was his dog and his decision. It would have been forgotten by now had HE not taken it to the next level by tormenting EVERYONE on this board by posting graphic photos of the dog's autopsy and vividly described how he pushed the plunger of the syringe allowing his daughter to watch, delivered the fatal dose, and observed Indy's demeanor as he took his final breath. A young, beautiful dog whose only crime was having imperfect hips that would have prevented his attaining a "V" rating/KKL1. Jantie then proceded to turn his revenge to Indy's breeder, one of the most respected GSD breeders in Germany; that didn't sit well with many. I don't know how much of that hideous saga is still here in the archives.  I think the autopsy photos were deleted since they were so very graphic and offensive.

He may be an advocate for taking the SV to an honest level and his  intentions may be noble, but that will never redeem him in my eyes and I will never believe one word he says.... past is prologue.

A very sad story.

As the owner of a severely dysplastic dog for whom we had high hopes I do deeply empathize and sympathize with Jantie. We discovered the HD very early: the pup, at 4 months, required far more rest breaks during playtime than we had ever seen in our other dogs. He didn't run, he bunny hopped, and he never did sit straight on his rear--he always held one leg out to the side. X-rays revealed severe HD on the right, already with arthritic changes, and a lesser level of HD on the left.

The breeder of our dog dismissed the diagnosis with the remark that "the X-rays don't look that bad" even though two veterinarians and a University orthopaedist agreed with the radiographs. We were given the offer of returning the dog to the breeder and accepting a pup from a future litter, and were assured that, once returned, the dog would be placed in a loving home.

He already had a loving home, namely ours. We opted for surgery because his malformations were correctable to some extent with the assistance of steel plates. I just read Indiana's Story, hadn't seen that previously, and it sounds like his HD was far more severe than our dog's and with a very poor prognosis.

These are impossible situations. As informed dog people we base our selections on the best information we can gather, on ZW, on past history as far as it is available, on the breeder's assurances and reputation. We also realize that HD happens . . . we just wish it hadn't happened to our dog.

He was four this summer. He swims, he runs, he chases bunnies and catches one now and then. He does have an odd rolling gait when he runs and 'throws' his legs and we know he'll have discomfort in the not too distant future; we'll deal with it when it happens. He, like Indiana, has digestive issues. Not full blown EPI or SIBO or metabolic deficiencies but he does have a problem putting on weight and keeping it on (maybe that's not such a bad thing for a dog with HD, to be a little underweight) and his stools are more often than not mush.

How each owner deals with a dysplastic dog is an intensely personal decision. I'm glad we were able to afford the surgery (with some help from our friends) and were able to be with him 24/7 during the very long recovery and rehab period. It was immensely exhausting for the dog and his people. Not all dogs qualify for surgery, not all people can go through it, and some dogs have in such horribly bad hips that, without available surgical intervention, they suffer terrible pain and have no life. Each case, each dog, is unique. I would not want anyone second guessing our decisions.

This is a far cry from the purpose of this thread and I offer my apologies to Mr. Lanting for hijacking it. I was sorry to read that Jantie has been removed from PDB. I perceive that as a loss of a resource available to the English speaking members.

Blitzen

I offer the information just for background for Aqua. The situation with Indiana was horrible, no argument from me.

I felt the same way about the apologist for the SV, I figured Jante was right, (and for most part he was), and I will never believe anything from the apologist again.

People generally need to earn respect, don't they?
