Barkroz,

You stated that you are not LOCAL to the area.

Your not by chance living in Nigeria, are you?

by workingdogz on 25 July 2012 - 18:07

I'd put money on Barkroz being legit,
she's just a friend trying to help people
she consider's friends. I believe she stated
in her OP she is in WI, which isn't very close
to Nigeria at all

Although, a Cheesehead with a Nigerian
accent would probably round out my day

Barkroz - you have your heart in the right place but without disclosure of basic details as to where these individuals are located etc it is doubtful people will donate with open arms.  Things just do not match up.  This idea that they were refused transport to the hospital due to lacking insurance does not jive in my opinion as most, if not all states, have a duty of care requirements along the line of a duty for emergency personnel to provide ‘medical services in a manner which was not grossly negligent or performed in bad faith.  Now, if they chose to refuse care based on the concern that they lacked the funds, that is different from being refused service.

Additionally, on one hand you stated that you were trying to respect their safety by not giving their exact location online but in the next sentence you with assistance with local resources.  One cannot give local resources without knowing where these individuals are.  Ms. Raffel did not seem to have concerns about posting location info when she requested assistance with finding housing after this accident occured so it does not seem that there is a safety issue that much in play.  You do not need to give out their SSN to list a town they are located in ;-)  As I do not know these individuals I am in no place to judge whether this is a line or a true call for help.

However, asking that people email you privately for specific details is not effective when asking for monetary assistance online.  I have some recent experience in this as two of my dog friends lost their homes in a recent forest fire.  I have one of them currently living with me (and her 10 dogs which included 5 day old puppies at the time of the fire) until her new place is done.  Myself and another person set up a bank account as well as an online "chip in" page.  The dog community at large has been *extremely* generous but we also realized that people that did not personally know these two individuals would need as much info as possible and we did not hesitate to give it so that there would be complete clarity as to what happened, who it happened to, their current needs, and where the money would be going.

Another example of successful fundraising is that woman in CA (I think) who lost one of her GSDs and her bitch was in the ICU for an extended period of time.  Pictures were posted of the dog and regularly updates were given.  The members of this group appeared to step up and give generously in that instance as well.  So do not take the cynicism here as heartless.  Money is tight and people want to make sure the money they send is going to what they think it is.  By coming on this list and requesting assistance for these individuals but being reticient to give simple details makes people pause before donating.  With all that said, I hope both the dogs and humans in this situation get the assistance they need.  I recommend setting up a "chip in" account and have the affected individuals post messages about what happened, their immediate needs, as well as their long-term needs.  Good luck.

Initially it was said that Petra refused medical treatment at the scene of the accident and now the lady at Walmart states that she was told that Petra has a broken arm and leg???  Something doesn't compute.

The CSM at the Louisville KY Walmart I spoke with relayed her experience with me, not saying it was or wasn't Petra. Just very oddly coincidental. She distinctly remembered the caller because it was her first day back to work. Psycht summed up perfectly what I have been trying to get at all along. :)

I will help, if this is all true, it is nothing against you barkroz. I also did a search on the two names and come up with von kellnerhof kennel, and a whole lot of GOOD things said about both people. Maybe they have just really fallen on hard times and don't know where to get help. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE HUMANE SOCIETY TO BE AS HUMANE AS SOME OTHERS, AND ALSO BELIEVE THEY WOULD BE AT RISK OF LOSING THEIR DOGS IF THEY TURN THERE FOR HELP.A lot more free help for people out there than there is for dogs. If the need for help is legit, I will help. I hate to see ANY dog go to the dog pound, be it a Shepherd or a mixed breed. Barkroz, you need to explain to this couple, people are willing to help if they are in true need, but we all also have dogs that like to eat. We need cold hard facts = cold hard cash

Why doesn't anyone e-mail the OP directly? She said she has the facts, she has the contact information directly to Peter and Petra, she has images and report numbers.

Go ahead, you do it and report back!

More questiosns: What is a foundation stock breeding VA dog worth any way? You mean to tell me their whole net worth was tied up in the dogs that were supposedly killed? How about putting up the dead dogs' pedigrees for all to see and mourn?

I did, the facts stand true. But I remain respectful to the OP and the parties involved. If they do not want the images and information directly posted on the Internet, I will respect that. I am doing my part to help the people and dogs in need of honest and desperate help. I am not wealthy, but I do have some to give. I am trying to be the change I want to see in the world. I would only hope that if I were ever in desperate need, I would receive help from caring people in this world as I have done others.
