Ok, it just gets more and more bizarre.

Your initial post had me believing this happened
recently, now it has happened weeks ago? And
people who 'cyber know' her haven't heard anything
about it?

Tell you what, find out where the closest Walmart
or Meier etc is to where they are, we'll need an address
and phone number of that store, and we'll make
arrangements on our end for a couple bags of dog food.
It won't be the best, but at least the dogs will have food.
I'm still too skeptical to send $, but certainly don't want
to see animals go hungry. Humans almost always
have somewhere to go for food.  Animals depend on
their caretakers.

If none of those chain stores are close, they/you need
to provide us with the name & number
of the store closest to them.

If this is all bullshit, the worst that has happened
is someone has screwed us for a couple bags of
Pedigree

We have had much worse happen to us than that.

I was not going to post anything but I happen to know the OP and I also know that she would not have posted if she believed that there was no truth to any of this. I say if you can help, then great, if you don't want to that is your choice as well, but I see no need to bash, and be negative, I believe that the OP put her contact info in her initial post so if you had questions why not just email for your own clarification?

I wasn't aware it was 'bashing' or being negative
to simply ask for details. The OP came on a very public
forum requesting MONEY and any other help for
this couple, but was cryptic about any details,
always indicating she should be emailed privately.

Don't quite get it?  why not just lay it on the line here?
If you are soliciting funds here, you should ready
yourself to provide details to the very same forum
you are using. The more the OP was asked for further
info, the more cryptic she got. No reason to be so
mysterious when asking for peoples money etc.

Our offer still stands. Post the name of the nearest
chain store and we will make arrangements for a
couple of bags of food.

Thank you Workingdogz for your offer.  I will find out the Walmart nearest to their location and post the information.  Once again, the accident report is listed above.  Thank you again.

All I found on the two names were sad stories about people helping Petra and Peter and getting robbed.

Unless somebody provides legit report from the scene, I would be hesitant to send any money.

To be frank, it's not so much that I think the OP might be duplicitous...I just can't help but wonder if the OP is being used as an unwitting shill.

It happens.

Edited to add:

For example, the town mentioned as the accident site is Unadilla, which is nowhere NEAR any border of Georgia, let alone near Lousiville, KY--Unadilla is just below Macon, just shy of being right in the damn middle of the state. So how, myself asks me, did they manage to continue on an additional 500+ miles, all the way to Louisville, KY?

As Judge Judy says, "If something doesn't make sense, it's because it isn't true."

Well, I just googled a Walmart in the Louisville area,
called and spoke to the CSM to try to make some
sort of arrangements with the store for dog food
to be purchased on our end and picked up there.

Oddly enough, after explaining the situation to the
very pleasant lady, she cut me off and said I should
be very careful, as a woman had just called that very
Walmart on monday asking if her 'son' could come in
and cash a check without ID. She explained she was
relocating from out of State and currently lodged in a
hotel, and had been involved in a rollover accident,
and consequently her arm & leg were broken, so
she could not come in, but she could  send her son
with a check. The woman did indeed have a slight
'foreign' accent (that comment coming from a
lady in Kentucky made me chuckle), so, I think at this
point we will have to retract our offer and back away.
Too many hinky things are floating around.

The wonderful lady at Walmart Customer Service did
provide me with the following suggestions for this
couple if they are truly in need for their pets. They should
contact the KY Humane Society and they will be provided with
food for their dogs. Also, she stated area churches will also
assist with donations for both human and animal. So, all is
not without hope, they can utilize what charities are near to
them it seems. This woman was adamant that the local
charities etc were very easy to deal with if one is truly in need.

It's great you want to help them Roz , and I'm sure your heart
is in the right place, but I think you might want to be careful here.
Too many weird things popping up.

The odd out of state check/car roll over accident story was
just too much of a coincidence for me to buy.

This whole thing qualifies for a Twilight Zone nomination.

Workingdogz... for some reason, I am not surprised at what you found out, at all.
I hope the truth comes out in full.

Thank you

by barkroz on 25 July 2012 - 18:07

Boy, this stuff is taking the heart right out of me, for sure...I forwarded the accident report and the city it occurred in.  I forwarded names and my personal email.  I am not a trusting person, but was raised to help someone when they are in a bad situation, and will always do what I can to assist a dog in need.  I tried to respect their safety by not giving out their "exact" location online, something most of us I think understand.   Otherwise just an attempt to find resources (does not have to be money, I get it, trust me, I get it), and some were listed, thank you again...I will give the walmart information when I receive it.  Thank you for the couple of supportive responses.  It seemed like a good idea to post here, prior to my doing so.  Your comments, quite frankly, are a little hurtful in somecases.  Once again, not one email, not one...

by hexe on 25 July 2012 - 18:07

barkroz, doesn't any of the things that aren't adding up give you ANY pause to consider that you might be getting played?  I'm sorry if it's hurtful to suggest such, but you wouldn't be the first friend that's been on the receiving end of that game...  The questions aren't an indictment of you directly, but rather of those on whose behalf you're appealing.
