The current DNA test for DM is not breed specific and it may not be perfect, but for now it's all we have. It's not a test of elimination, it's just another tool for breeders to consider when planning a breeding with the goal in mind to not produce any "at risks". At risks and carriers can be used safely if not bred to another at risk or a carrier.

We breed workingline shepherds, mostly East German lines but some Czech and West Workingline
We have used OFA, Animal Genetics and DDC Laboratories
We also test/ certify for CERF, Cardiac and Thyroid,
We are starting to do patellas and shoulders so not all are done yet
I know Schraderhaus K9 and Timberhaus K9 in Washington, Vom Gildaf K9 in Wisconsin and Weberhaus K9 in Kansas also test for DM with the currently available tests.

As a person that is in search of another gsd, this gives sites to some of the good breeders available that test.
I really think, to me, this is a perfectly useful and informative thread. Nice for those of us looking, learning and trying to compare for the ideal puppy that would be ideal for each family.
So........is there a way to "save" this tread on PDB for later reference??? I'm still trying to learn to navigate around here, as well, find the perfect puppy for me. Thanks.

We test for DM through OFA, we are having litters that are cleared by parentage for DM.
