I'm pretty sure there are more than enough threads posted here of line bashing and that's where this seems to be headed as well. So no thanks, I don't need your version of "the truth". I was honestly curious about pricing because I've seen it posted in a few places where people were looking for dogs and it was mentioned that SL's were generally priced higher WL's. Hence my question. I've seen some great examples of both lines and some poorly bred examples as well, so I'd rather not contribute to another long useless thread of line bashing. Thanks. I'll post elsewhere.

Thanks, Alphapup, I think you and Sita's mom pretty much summarized it for me. It dawned on me that for a majority of pet homes, dogs like Rin Tin Tin and Sam from "I Am Legend" are what people have viewed as the ideal German Shepherd and probably a popular pick for those looking for a well bred GSD that fits this description.

The truth is, there are MORE stupid people seeking SLs than WLs. Notice I use the word "more". I think both sides pay too much, but I agree that it is worse on the SL side. First of all, more pet people that are uneducated get roped into the SL. They are dazzled by the term "Champion". They are unaware that more "champion" titles get handed out than candy at a pedophile convention. They hear the word "champion" and they think it must be good. Heck yeah! I'll pay $5000 for the son of the champ of the local 4h show! The uneducated mostly wants the rin tin tin GSD because they don't even know anything but that and solid white. Go look in your local paper. I'm sure you'll see an ad that states, "Champion bloodlines". And that's just the uneducated general public.-----------------------Now the cold hard truth...IMO, most (and I say most because there are some that do care about workability, etc) that buy a SL don't know what a GSD is supposed to be. To me these people are no different than a person that will pay $1000 for a mutt called a Doodle. To give you another analogy, this type will buy a ferrari with a ford pinto engine. It's all about the looks. Who cares if they have solid nerves, courage and could even hack it on a farm. So why wouldn't a person like this pay more for a dog than another group that tends to be more educated in the breed and less worried if they receive a shiny blue ribbon? Most (and I say most because there are still morons in this group) of the WL group have done their research and know what they're looking for.------------------Think about this. There are way more SL breeders than WL, right? There are more people looking for SL pups, so it makes sense, but every other product out there goes against the price of a SL vs a WL. Think about it. Use Dobermann as an example. SLs, a dime a dozen. WLs are rare and cost more. Peanuts are cheap, yet pistaccios are more expensive. ------------------------------How do you explain paying more for an inferior product that doesn't fit the standard set by its creator? I'd feel pretty embarrassed if I bought beer that was water.----------Now before you SL people get your ribbons in a bunch, I do realize that there are many that focus on everything and look for a well balanced dog and do have knowledge. There are probably more WL breeders breedind crap, so don't feel bad. It's on both sides. WL just doesn't get the number af pet people that are totally clueless.

Ok on a serous note,

I am not well versed in SL other than seeing a good number of them worked.

Could it be that because they are firstly breed for the perfect proportions and that a lower number fit that perfect proportion, i.e. large number have visual faults.

Where with WL possible a higher percentage have acceptable drive to fit the WL description.

Would like to hear from SL line people.

What do you think?

Haha! Thanks, Sonya. That's MY post as well. :-)

Sonya, when you first came on here, you thought your dog was a WL dog, right?

She is a working dog chaz. She is not a cat
I do not see the difference cos schutzhund is after all just a SPORT
My showline dog is capable of both

I said "WL", not working dog. But you kinda prove my point.
