Not that there anything wrong with that. My male started at 15 weeks.

Youngest dog I ever had lift his leg was 10 weeks. Not a dominANT bone in his body. The word is dominANT, by the way.

I am afraid to ask what everyone's definition of dominant is...but who the hell cares how a dog chooses to pee?

SSG had the best answer.

Sportguy,

I second that.  I had to do the same thing for my pitbull.

Like Jen said, I did what SSG proposed and my "dominate" dog mounted me in an attempt to "dominant" me.

not sure about making people feel better, but we had a little deformed male pomeranian, his hid end was deformed and all twisted.  he would do a headstand on both front feet and pee on stuff.  funniest thing to see

so can someone answer me this..

when i brought my puppy home, he saw my husky/wolf and yorkie lifting there legs..
so he tried to do it, and his leg hit the sliding door, and i think he got scared.

could that be a factor of not lifting his leg?

I have three very confident dogs that squat to relieve themselves, they only cock thier legs when they want to territory mark.  It has been my observation that dogs that constantly cock their legs and mark everywhere they go are usually a bit nervy and the less secure the dog feels in an environment, the higher they cock their legs, scratch up the ground after relieving etc.  Confident, strong nerved dogs have less of a need to constantly assert themselves.  Does not mean dogs that frequently cock their legs are weak dogs, just they feel insecure at the time for whatever reason.

Why would anyone care or even think about how a dog pisses?
